So, the handgun thread in legal has got me thinking. What are peoples opinions on handguns? The only 'bad' (not in my opinion, though) feature of them, is that they are concealable.

To me, they seem an almost purely defensive weapon. Limited range, weak in power, somewhat difficult to use without practice, not that great acurately without practice, and in my opinion, sometimes the only benefit over another weapon is psychological. I am in no way saying they cannot be an offensive weapon, just that there are a lot better choices available.

However, from what I can gather, the simple fact that they are concealable, seems to be most peoples problem with them. While this is a point, a cut down shotgun is as concealable, and probably a lot more dangerous.

To me, they are about the last thing I would ban. If someone was serious about causing problems, a deer hunter with his scoped rifle is much higher on the danger list, than someone who just picked up a pistol and wants to try to cause problems.

Any other opinions? Anywhere where I missed, mayber they are a better ofensive weapon than a rifle? Anythign in general?

There's no reasoning or logic whatsoever behind the anti-gun movement - aside from the hunger for power and the desire to keep the people subordinate to an elite class.

You heard Ms. Feinstein. She wants them all.

Surely we can't have people armed to defend themselves when out in public, after all, the streets would run with blood.

Surely we can't have people owning high powered rifles, after all, we can't have them climbing water towers and shooting folks.

Surely we can't have people owning those nastily effective shotguns, they'd just use them to hurt and kill people.

Where exactly do you want the line to be drawn? I, for one, would rather see the legal hammer dropped on offenders rather than coming up with silly*** reasons to ban certain classes of firearms. One ban leads to another. And I sure don't want to have to explain my need and desire for certain firearms to someone who willfully doesn't get it.

Well said!

The sad sorry simple truth of the matter is that any ban inevitably leads to another, and another, and another, and...

Laws are a lot like potato chips or jelly beans: it's extremely difficult for legislators to eat just one.
