This Friday morning I walked into one of the local pawn shops. Nothing much there.
Then I noticed it. A Savage 110 in .270 with a Nikon Buckmaster variable scope. A couple of minor dings on the odd green laminated stock, but otherwise pristine.

The tag says $350.00
I say, "OK, put it on layaway, it's my Christmas present."

Yes, it's the most ordinary of deer rifles.
Yes, it's not pretty, sexy, or macho.
Yes, I don't even hunt anymore.
Yes, the price isn't that great.

It's still a rifle that I don't mind leaving in my truck in the parking lot every day while I'm at work so that I can go to the range on my way home.

I like my other rifles too much to treat them that way. And I really need the practice.;)

Have you ever bought a rifle or pistol using logic (or excuses) like that?

this 270 Savage has taken atleast 2 deer every deer season for the last 20 years , it's made several one shots clean kills 4 to 6 hundred yard shots using handloads , the 270 is hard to beat and my Savage has never failed not even once on any hunts it's been on .

I'm pretty sure i took my first deer with 110 unless there not a long action. But I know for sure it was a savage in 7MM MAG and let me tell you it put a wallop on that doe. It sure was a heavy gun, I've since sold it and bought something in a bit lighter for climbing the hills in southern Wisconsin.

You bet. I buy plain jane economy guns to leave in places at higher risk of theft:

-Backup hunting rifle (left in deer camp while I'm in the woods all day)
-Pickup truck guns
-Home defense guns that I leave OUTSIDE the safe during the day / all the time. I don't want to leave my really nice stuff out.
-Cheap air rifle to keep by the back door, for quick shots at blackbirds.

Gotta have at least two of every niche gun - one nice one for the safe; one blue collar worker. :)

FWIW, coincidentally, I also have a Savage 110 in .270 win, and it too is a beater gun, homemade camo job and all.

And yes, you got a nice deal for a 110 with a Buckmaster scope - not too shabby at all. :)
