Georgia Ammo Serial Number Bill In The Works

SB 12 has started in the Georgia Senate. It is the same basic bill introduced in several states requiring ammo to have a serial number before it can be sold. May be time to start writing your reps.

Stupidity wrapped around junk science. CSI Miami-style. What would stop someone from gathering empties at a range, reloading them, and using them for criminal purposes? Or just to sell to criminals? They would be effectively traceless. Or stolen ammunition at a range or store?

We have license numbers, VINs, color charts, tire tread charts, paint codes, and so on for cars, but they don't seem to help much outside of Hollywood.

The serial numbers would be etched in the base of the bullet.

That's what makes this so costly to everyone.

this is horible. Ga is supposed to be one of the more pro-gun states.....this is definately a step backwards in my opinion.

It's not horrible. It's normal for just about any legislature. You can find some yahoo legislator that will sponsor darn near anything. Imagine some of the bills that get sponsored in California that never see the light of day. I seriously doubt it will ever get out of committee.

But I'll be watching. Oh, by the way, Georgia has a good number of things that need to be addressed to become truly a pro-gun state. Such as defining or deleting the public gathering clause of the concealed carry permit. Neither permit holders or the police are really sure what it means. So two things happen, people don't carry where they should be able to do so and the police arrest people in areas that the courts later decide are not public gatherings under the meaning of the law.

Sure would be easier for all involved if the legislature would either define 'public gathering' explicitly or delete the words completely.

This bill will likely have a version in several states this year. It was defeated in several last year. It will come again and again until hopefully, they move on to another tactic. Errr not hopefully.

Write your legislators. Join a Grass Roots group. Stand up and fight.

I don't think you know much about our gun laws here. We have a piss poor CCW license.

We also have a governor dumb enough to sign just about anything.
