Includes carrying in Bars, Restaurants, and State Buildings, and no penalty for accidentally carrying into and airline terminal.

Your use of "liberal" scared me -- I thought he was gonna ban & confiscate all guns!:what:

Have to get used to that actually more original meaning of the word .....

Good on the Gov!

But does it still require a permission slip (carry permit) from the government to exercise a right?

Either way could be a step in the right direction.

I thought the exact same thing.

This is going to be jaw fodder for weeks and months on the radio talk shows.

That's the way the article was written, so I copied it. If you have Comcast it's on the home page in those exact words. Some folks you just can't make happy

You can find a summery of the changes at Georgia Carry: It also has a link to the bill.

http://www.georgiacarry.org/cms/current-bills/

If you hurry, you can eat some BBQ with them after the signing. :)

Some other changes not yet mentioned are Hunting w/ a Suppressor and the law clearly takes gun-grabbing off the table in the event of a declared emergency. Also requires the courts to inform the Feds if someone is deemed by the courts to be mental.

Edit: If Deal's re-election staff read the title to this thread, they'll go into full damage control mode. :D 'Liberal' and Statewide politics don't mix well in GA.

It's hardly the most liberal law in the country. It is, arguably, the biggest change from the previous level.

Vermont has no state gun laws at all, residents there are limited only by federal law. You can carry where ever you want without anyone's permission.

It's hard to beat Vermont. I don't believe they have had any restrictive firearms laws going all the way back to their 1770's beginning. Some Green Mountain Boy here, please correct me if I am wrong about that. :)

And now, 4 other states have finally joined VT with permitless carry. Alaska,Arizona,Arkansas and Wyoming.(CC for WY residents only.)

Vermont will always be the pioneer. We owe them a lot.

airport areas; charges....

My local newspaper did a article about the low rate of gun related prosecutions at the major airport(one of the top tourist/business travel sites).
60-75% of the guns(handguns, loaded pistol magazines, Tasers/EDWs, ammunition) were owned/packed by license holders(CCW) or armed citizens with 0 criminal records/problems.
They say; "whoops" or "hey, I forgot it".
Is that careless? Yes. Should all of these gun owners face charges/fines? No.
Airport cops & TSA managers can use common sense & good judgement with these events.
The recent active shooter incident in LAX shows that homeland security/safety is still a big concern in airport terminals but sworn LE and properly trained security can deal with these situations.

I've been following this for a while and I love how the anti's panties are all bunched up and making them pucker full time. It's a joy to see them get so squeamish and offended. I just love it. It makes my day every time I read one of them blurt out a fallacy. It makes me consider GA as a state to retire in.

Of course this made the main MSN page

"Seven 'extreme' rules in new Georgia gun law"

Funny how there wasn't a single blurb a few weeks ago concerning Leland Yee's arrest:banghead:

Georgia has been a leader for gun rights. In 1982 Kennesaw Georgia passed a law making it mandatory to own a gun.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennesaw,_Georgia#Gun_law

In fact some might consider Georgia to be the leader for modern gun rights and concealed carry!

http://www.txchia.org/history.htm

"In the United States the history of modern concealed carry started with Georgia. In 1976 that state's governor, Zell Miller, introduced what became the model for later laws. His effort was inspired by an NRA director and former border patrolman, Ed Topmiller. The heart of the law was that the job of administering the shall issue permit process was given to a non-law enforcement, elected official."

Georgia went to full shall issue in 1989

VT is a pioneer for permitless carry, yes. But I would advise to avoid the city of Burlington. That area is a mecca of antis that would make NY, NJ and Cali jealous. I never saw much open carry in VT in the years I lived there. A bill was introduced in VT February to allow silencer/suppressor use, but not while hunting. The bill is stuck in the House Fish and Wildlife committee for the time being.

(CC for WY residents only.)

Unlicensed concealed carry for WY residents only. Wyoming recognizes the permits of 34 other states. Personally, I would consider that to be quite a ways away from "Constitutional Carry". However, even the other 3 "Constitutional Carry" states have public places where the carry of a firearm is prohibited - which I just don't see in the 2nd Amendment. And Georgia, with their new law, is by far NOT the most "liberal" state for loose gun laws.

Good for Georgia. Don't be surprised if Texas has something similar (possibly minus the bars) working its way thru the Legislature when in session again this time next year.

Let's hope so considering that Texas is in the top 10 most restrictive states when it comes to carrying a handgun in public.

Vermont also prohibits carrying a loaded "long gun"-rifle or shotgun in public in or on any motorized vehicle at any time.

That's great.

I thought that the airport terminal was a federal thing though? If the TSA catches someone (even before the actual screening process) wouldn't the state be powerless to do anything?
