I went to Munich yesterday and this was my first stop. I was the only visitor at the time and had free run of the place. This place had a smallish but amazing collection of anceint guns and crossbows. If anybody who speaks German fluently visits this place, please try to convince them to make a detailed picture book of their arms, I would buy one in a second. I was unable to take good pictures, there was glass over the exibits and my one year old was keeping me busy.

This is of course an extreamly abridged thread just to give you an idea of some stuff, definatly worth two euros admission.
Any questions, please include picture number, I may have more pics of some guns.

Incredible! Was there some kind of early hydraulic press to draw back that crossbow? The arms look like they're more than 1/2" thick!

Great thread!! Beautiful weapons. I always liked German firearms especially their double barreled shotguns. :)

The workmanship on those weapons is outstanding!

I doubt that you could contract a build like those today no matter what the cost.

Sehr Gute! Vielen Danke!

I and my daughter really like the Snaphaunce with the swans for the cock and "hammer"

This is another of those "I was stationed two hours by train away for three years and was too ignorantly young to go see it" places.....though I did manage to slept around the German Museum just to see the V2 and Me 262 and such. You got to love a place with U Boat sawed in half lengthwise.

I also walked right by the hunting museum in Birchesgarten with out stopping on a ski trip.

There are reasons older guys fantasize about getting back into their younger heads down time........

Thank you 25cschaefer. I hate trying to take a picture through a display case. The glare kills the image. If the museum has a postcard or catalog, I generally buy it to save myself the trouble.

Sam, I would say they were closer to 5/8", they had a double hand crank with a very large reduction.

The museum had no publication of the arms, there were some pictures of deer on a post card but nothing on the guns or bows. I have many more pictures, maybe I will upload some tommorow, maybe some in the knife thread as some of the hunting sabers were awesome.
