German Luger found in basement

No, no one can ID it without complete information of the markings on the slide toggle & receiver.

Also a full view photo showing the compete gun including all the barrel.

All anyone can tell you from that photo is, yes, it's a Luger.
And probably an Artillery model Luger due to the small part of the sight visible in the photo.

But more info as to any markings and a better photo are necessary to be even halfway able to ID & value it.

It is a 1917 DWM ("Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken") Artillery model.
With matching numbers and correct wood base magazine.
Is the mag numbered the same as the gun?
That would add value.

The troubling part is the MADE IN GERMANY stamp on the frame.
That shouldn't be there, and probably indicates a imported gun from well after WWI or WWII, rather then a war trophy bring-back.
That will hurt to value somewhat.

export artillery luger most likely. surplus gun sold after ww1 for export or made for export gun
does it say 'safe' or "geisercht" on frame by safety (that switch left rear of pistol)
how bout extractor, "Loaded" or "Geladen"?
 
The magazine is in good shape. I haven't fired it. I didn't think I should clean it.
The number on the mag does not match the gun.
Being this was a gun imported and sold, what would the value be?
 
'Made in Germany' was put there by the Germans for any firearm they export.

It likely started as an Issue weapon in 1917, but after 1920, the German military/police were only allowed pistols with less than a 4 inch barrel, but could export others.

My wife has an Ancrombie and Fitch marked 1920 export Luger (they were the retailers) as well as an Ortigies, and a 1914 type mauser pistol, all "made in Germany" marked.
 
Awwww man, I don't even have a basement, or an attic for that matter. I'm guess I'm not going to find any Lugers lying around. Dang it. :scrutiny:

My wife found her grandmother's Luger in a wooden barrel of uncooked rice once. So almost like a basement.
 
No basement, no attic, no luger or sacks o' gold. :(

I don't think that Artillery model (characterized by its 8" barrel and adjustable sight) was made for export. Look at the date: 1917. It's a wartime gun.
 
I have a Glock in the basement, does that count? The Luger is in the safe. :D

Nice find! I wouldn't be in a hurry to shoot it if it's all matching. It first should be properly evaluated for value and safety. My mixed numbers 1913 DWM is a great shooter.
 
Interesting point SDC. I'll have to check on the few Luger books I have. I wonder if they were exported to America post-war as a means of raising desperately needed foreign revenue?
