Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-AP -- Saudi Arabia is going to let foreign residents carry guns. The announcement comes in the wake of bombings, kidnappings and killings targeting Western workers there.

Under Saudi law, foreigners -- even security guards -- cannot have weapons, while Saudis must apply for a permit. Today's announcement from the country's police minister suggests that foreigners will now be able to apply for permits as well.

A Western diplomat says some embassies and foreign companies had asked Saudi authorities to ease rules barring private security guards from carrying weapons. The announcement appears to be a response to such requests.

Details on the new measures have not been disclosed yet.

You realize that the news is that Saudi Arabia is letting non-Residents carry guns, right? Citizens of other countries? Are you saying that "ALL USA states" should let anyone from another country living in the US temporarily own and legally conceal guns? Or, maybe just those from Saudi Arabia? Or how about the ones from Iraq and Afghanistan?

After all, "Saudis must apply for a permit"--they've already had their right to carry guns. The article doesn't mention concealed carry though, and since it mentions "private security guards" repeatedly, it's hard to tell if CCW is or will be allowed for either citizens or foreigners.

If I was in Saudi Arabia I sure as hell would want to be armed. I suppose this is a good thing.

Clarification:

What I meant was that I think all the states in the USA should realize the importance of a firearm as a self-defense tool, and therefore offer "shall issue" CCW permits for US Citizens.

Why not? Indiana allows it.
