Getting creative after reloading

That's a great idea! Thank you for posting the link and the instructions.

I noticed your load information on that box. Have you chronographed those? I've been working on some .357 loads over the last couple of weeks. I compared the loads out of my 4 inch ported barrel to the published data out of an 8 inch barrel and found I was close to 200 fps below them.

No, I don’t even own a chrono... yet. I just made these up from the data on Hodgdon, and primarily use them in my Henry. I’ve shot a few through my Model 19, but prefer them in the rifle.

OP, can you point me to where I could find the cartridge image you used. My google-fu is failing me.

That’s from Cartridges of the World 3rd ed, but it’s not really a 357 mag. I just used one that was close in proportion, and fiddled around with it on my trusty old Windows Paint program. Give me a little while, and I’ll put up the image.

Here you go...

Got this one done. I didn't have any cardboard with cool graphics so I had my son cut one from a priority mail shipping box. Took some measurements and made a wrap around label for the box.
I thought the cardboard would be too thick but it worked out pretty well. I told my son to cut out 5 or 6 more but he said I'm on my own now...lol.

Looks good.

Mine is all hand crafted and holds a double stack of 380 and says Coca~Cola. Also mine doesn't have an operable end flap. But I like this!

Good to see that when we have some idle time everyone gets creative on here. Sadly I have all the work I can handle with no slowdown in sight. So much for retirement! I am beginning to understand what Brad at MB goes through every day! I guess I should be happy that I HAVE work as many that are willing are suffering due to none. Guys & gals don't forget to offer (if you ate able) to help your neighbors that are less fortunate, especially while this mess is playing out. I know helping others allows me feel good.:D

Sometime this morning, the thought hit me... Why do we make boxes of 50? When I shoot my revolver, AR, M1 Carbine, etc... the number of rounds in a box isn’t always divisible by the number of rounds in the gun.

I’ve decided that I’m going to start making ammo boxes that hold 60 rounds instead of 50. That way, no matter if I’m shooting a five-shooter, six-shooter, or 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 round magazines I’ll have the right number of cartridges in the box to completely fill that last cylinder, tube, or magazine.

I got about 12K rounds of .38 loaded in Plano, MTM and Dillon ammo boxes. I was thinking just the other day about how much I had invested just in ammo boxes! I recently ordered 100 of the cardboard ammo boxes with the Styrofoam trays. I think they cost me around .35 each. One think I found attractive is the plain white box which could be written on or of course you could stick a label. Certainly not as cheap as the ones I'm seeing here. Never thought of rolling my own. I've actually got a hand scoring tool which would put a nice score line where the box needs to be folded. I can see making some boxes in my future. Thanks for the idea!!!

The last time I made boxes was to store all my APS primer strips that I loaded. Right now though my boredom is more than taken care of by creating my shaker bullet collator for my new RCBS rifle tube loaders for .223 and .308. Revised again to simplify.

I never thought of using Soft Drink boxes...what a great Idea! I tried printing and sticking...and it works....just more trouble!

When I made boxes, I found a tool that really worked to help the folds work better:

If anyone else is into APS, I have the print file I can email to you for these boxes.

What is that tool, it looks line one used to replace screens.

Our pizza cutter has a plastic disc and wont even cut pizza, so that ought to work well :)

When I was in high school I had a summer job in a carton factory, the big punch I operated mostly made boxes for Absolut Vodka, at least two shifts out of the three per day all year around
12 bottles per box, two boxes per sheet at 7-9 000 sheets per shift.
That's boxes for something like 135 000 000 bottles per year and we were not the only factory that was making them.

The punch had an integrated rotary printing press, imagine the ammo boxes I could have made!
