Getting into AR after all these years

Real nice start, see you went with the 1:7 twist. Despite the claims that a 1:7 will stabilize 55 grain and light bullets I never had much luck but they tack drive the heavy bullets like 69 to 80 grain. They show In Stock so my guess is you will have it soon.

I have had the last 2 PSA uppers I ordered in my hands within a week from ordering.

LPKs, cases, small parts....not so much.

I wish I had started with that upper instead of the carbine I bought for my first. Midlength is a nice sweet spot.

Once i get it i plan to sell the black magpul midlength and replace it with the new color stealth grey. And then i will replace the front sight post with KNS .34 dot for finer accuracy. Then i may have to sell some of my guns to defray the cost to get the other parts and a good complete lower. I m thinking of the Spikes Tactical enhanced at JoeBo Outfitters. Im not in a hurry to complete this project. SO the journey begins.

Customer service is bad , huh? I hope i dont get a defect product like canted sight block, etc. Is there such as thing as overtorque barrel or what not in ARs?

I've spent thousands with PSA. No they arent the fastest to ship, but with the money people save on the products, they can afford to buy some patience...:scrutiny:

I've never heard of a 1:7 having trouble failing to stabilize a 55 grain bullet. Or, I should say, I've heard of it but have never seen it with my own eyes. All my 1:7 ARs handle 55 grain just fine.

As far as this upper goes, this is a dandy and you will have a hard time finding a better one. Even at higher price points, I think FN barrels are the best. I have this very same upper, and love it.

This is my favorite AR upper for all purposes. Great selection!

Well I've seen my son's Yankee Hill won't do it nor will his M&P with the 1:7 twist and the 69 through 77 are all over the place. And he shot expert in the Marines so it's not him to much over priced crap out there. I'm building a lower and I can go to the local small town gun store and get a CMMG lower kit $10.00 cheaper than PSA another over priceed place less shipping. CMMG $60.00 OTD and no shipping.

I've ordered from PSA several times. Sometimes they ship quickly, other times it takes a few weeks. However, they have had the best price for items I've ordered and I've never been stiffed or dissatisfied with my purchases.

PSA Premium stuff has a very good reputation, so good choice at a good price. While every rifle barrel is a bit of a law unto itself, most 1:7 barrels do shoot well with 55 through 70 grain bullets. Some will shoot better than others, but accuracy is acceptable (about 2 1/2 MOA) with M193 in my 14.5" 1:7 twist barrel.

My own "go to" choices in BCG are BCM and Spikes Tactical. As for swapping out other parts, I'd recommend shooting it "as is" for a while and see what you really want or need to change. No point in spending money you might not need to.

Any remotely decent 1:7 barrrel will stabilize 55 gr. bullets just fine. Heck, military M193 ammo is 55 gr. and the military twist rate is 1:7. I had no problem hitting a torso-sized target at 500 yards using an M16 with a 1:7 twist and 55 gr. ammo.

Where the 1:7 really shines is in the longer bullets that are usually 60 gr. on up. A 1:7 should be expected to give good accuracy with any bullet from 50 gr. to the longest 5.56/.223 bullets they make. And a 1:7 is an excellent twist for 69 through 77 gr. bullets.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything; many Marines who score expert in the Fleet do it because their friend is pulling butts for them. The real feat is to score expert in boot camp.

That said, being a Marine he's definitely an above average shooter with a rifle and I agree that the problem probably isn't him. But the problem definitely isn't his rifling twist; there's something else causing the inaccuracy issues, because a 1:7 should get good accuracy with a 55 gr. bullet.

He did shoot expert in boot camp don't know whats going on with his rifles mine has a 1:8 twist and does decent. About 2" at 100 yards but I don't use a rest I just hold and fire. I know he ordered a 1:12 twist for 55 grain why I have no idea. But he can shoot a rifle but the best group he got the day I was shooting with him was about 1 and3/4 at 100 yards can't remeber the ammo he was using.

Just ordered a lower from PSA and got a "shipped" email the same day. Not a problem even if it takes a while.
This will be the start to my first AR. Not sure what upper to put on it yet.

PSA customer service and shipping times have improved over the past couple of months. Good products at good prices, especially if you're new to the AR platform.

I got it last Monday and everything looks perfectly assembled and front sight post is straight.
Saving for now for a lower and the rest....
