Been doing some reading and think I’m going to be giving 300 and 325 gr bullets a try at first.
I just go my package from Delta Team Tactical. Now I have my,
Flat wire buffer spring.
5oz buffer.
Low profile gas block.
And the barrel.

The markings are at the front, top, of the barrel.

It’s dimpled for the set screw .

I’ll give it a good cleaning before the build.

I’m going to drop the barrel off to my buddy at Aklys Defense on Monday. Zack is going to make me a muzzle break and time it for the barrel.
I got the .936 that was on sale for $88.99. They should have them back in stock in a week or two.Which barrel did you get? The .875" or the .936" one? ( From delta TeamTactical) Site is a little confusing, shows two different size barrels, .875 or .936. .875 is more expensive, 99.99 instead of 89.99. It says out of stock, but also notes that for 3 days it is on sale for 104.99!

Odd, the larger diameter barrel is the less expensive. I think that is the one I want....I got the .936 that was on sale for $88.99. They should have them back in stock in a week or two.
My buddy has a 458 Socom and runs a heavy buffer with a standard carbine spring. I went with a flat wire carbine spring because, it was on sale and I’ve been told that they last longer.Received the Upper receiver today, an Aero Precision for .458 Socom, now waiting for Delta team tactical to notify me of barrel in stock. Will likely also use one of their low profile gas blocks. So far, I believe I will use the Brownell bolt carrier group.
I have the idea of building the upper and using it on one of my existing Lowers. This raises the question of spring and buffer weight. Im sure the standard carbine setup isnt ideal. I see the buffer Gunny used, I guess I will copy cat. Is the spring standard AR15 stuff, or is a special one required for the .458?

You are correct, they don’t make as noise as the standard springs. And yes, I got it from Delta Team Tactical.I also understand they are less inclined to make that funny "sprong" noise some ARs make when cycling. Did the spring also come from Delta Team Tactical?

I haven’t decided on the mags yet. What are you using? I have all different types of mags.We think too much alike sometimes, Gunny. I have Bullet Bill painted onto my 458 SOCOM modified mags to help more easily identify them.
Heavy grease also helps stop the spring, sproing....can't..stand...the...SPROING!I also understand they are less inclined to make that funny "sprong" noise some ARs make when cycling. Did the spring also come from Delta Team Tactical?

Oh, I would so have to have "Meow" under that . . . []I was thinking about having this engraved, but will most likely have it done on another rifle.

Is there a benefit to use heavier buffer, say 7oz over 5 oz?I actually had a 7oz buffer in my .458 and a heavy spring, that radical didnt

Sorry I didn't finish typing that it seems. Is there a benefit to use heavier buffer, say 7oz over 5 oz?

Just curious- what do people use these for besides range fun? Seems like they would be ideal for tracking wounded dangerous game though.
That sounds right to me. I never did subs with mine tho I did have some down loaded 405s.My buddy told me that the issues you run into with the 458 Socom is when you go subsonic. If your buffer is to heavy and your gas system to long, it will short stroke. He said that a pistol gas system works best for running subsonic.
I told him that I didn't plan to shoot subsonic loads and would pretty much stay with the 300 to 350 gr bullets. He told me that I shouldn't have any trouble with the carbine gas system and 5 oz buffer.

It is one of the legal options to hunt deer with in several states. Iowa was shotgun only for many years until muzzle loader, handgun and now certain strait wall cartridges in rifles. Quite a few other states have similar laws.Just curious- what do people use these for besides range fun? Seems like they would be ideal for tracking wounded dangerous game though.
It could be range fun, but the cost of ammo is not cheap. Mine will be for hog hunting.Just curious- what do people use these for besides range fun? Seems like they would be ideal for tracking wounded dangerous game though.
