I am so use to shooting with a 44 (I shoot a Taurus 44 revolver 4" and a 8 3/8") that when my friend let me shoot his new 9mm sw today, I felt I was shooting a toy gun!!!! Anybody around have had the same feel? I am sure I could get use to the 9mm again but it is just amazing when you shoot a particular gun like a 44 after a while you get so used to it, kind of like a pair of shoe well broken in....

Felt recoil can be largely subjective. I used to think that a 30-06 kicked until I shot a .375. I thought that was awful until I shot a .460. I still that's bad because I don't have a 50 BMG to make the .460 feel tame by comparison.

I confess that I find full-power .44 Magnums a bit uncomfortable for fun shooting.

I remember many many years ago when I thought a .22 kicked! Now I can handle most guns with ease, even the vicious bastards like .50 cal rifles and .500 S&W revolvers. It just takes getting used to it all.
Hell, I used to think running a mile was a bitch, now I don't start to complain til I hit 6 miles or so and I am sure the marathon guys will laugh at me for that.

One thing I have learned is that it ain't neccesarily the caliber of the gun, ergonomics play a big part. A well fitting gun is so much easier than some ungodly poor designed bullet slinger.

You are 100% correct. If you can hold the gun properly it will be much easier to shoot....

I have never considered my Model 629 Smith to be unpleasant to shoot and I use Winchester 250 grain Platinum tips for hunting deer.

I would still rather stand behind a good 9mm if I am planning on blasting 500 rounds through just one gun in one afternoon.

The .44mag is a great cartridge with many fine guns built to handle it. I agree that the recoil thing is subjective. Frankly the grunt and snort of my Kel-Tec p32 is downright amazing IF you consider recoil to size! Having shot the 500S&W I'd say that the .44mag would feel much kinder pound for pound. One point that leaps out at me is that proper form and good firearm fit account for more fun than just about anything else. I have found that striving for accuracy with snubbies and carry guns has caused me to become less dependant on heavy firearms with great triggers. Exercising good form with a heavy double action snubbie of a major caliber can reward the shooter with insights that work well with target guns as well.

I usually finish a range session with the 44... it's hard to go back down to a 9mm or 38... but YOU WILL catch yourself flinching if you've been at it with the 44 all day. Or at least I do. Bad bad Rob.

yep

I am used to shooting .357s in my SP101 - 25 oz. When I was offered a pistol at the range, I picked up the guy's .40 and tried it. After firing it, I seriously asked the owner if it was a 9mm.

There was very little recoil. I see why people like them.

A friend of mine just bought an Airlite S&W 357. It weighs virtually nothing and can fire magnums. Needless to say, my hand and wrist hurt for days after firing that bad boy. We found out afterwards that, while it CAN fire magnums, it's not really recommended.

Neat little firearm, if a bit unnecessary. Not sure I'd want that much jerk out of a BUG.
