Yesterday Afternoon I finally got the girlfriend of 7 months out to the range.
(I farm so I took her out to out to shoot at our trash pit burm that doubles as our private range). Great spot to introduce a beginner just her my buddy and I no pressure and a familiar environment.
We had been going over the 4 rules, and how to load/ disassemble / grip several different guns now for about a month and she asked me Monday when we could go shoot.
Started her off with the old winchester 22 pump she did great, then moved to the ruger single six 22 loved it, then the AR for a little more noise but still no recoil, then my glock 23... I was nervous because its recoil is petty sharp but she fell in love and shot all 100 rounds and grouped them very well. Then we shot some shotguns my old youth model 870 pump 20 ga, Beretta 390 12 ga, and a NEF single shot 20ga.
I was amazed. I didn't know what to expect going into the day but she did great. I think what really helped was starting slow going over mechanics and 4 rules a couple months in advance so things weren't new/scary basic idea of how they operate and getting her interested. At the end of the day I asked her what her favorite guns were to shoot and she said the Glock and the AR. Imagine that.
Hopefully in the future I will continue to have a good shooting buddy, we can work on getting her CHL, and she will be more understanding of my gun disease. I was already pretty sure she was a keeper.... now I know!
