As all husbands do I ended up watching a movie on the lifetime channel with the wife. This one was Carolina Moon which had the usual woman in danger theme. Here is the difference.
The setting is a small southern town and the heroine is a psychic who returns. She has a trash family and her dad is a bad hombre everyone thinks murdered a girl when they were teens. She is with the sister of the slain girl when miss psychic senses they are being watched and danger is imminent. The sister is a stereotypical small town SMOKING HOT assertive rich bitch. The psychic is panicking and like lets RUN. The dixie doll is pulls a pistol out of her silver lipstick purse and starts looking for the perp! They don't find anybody so then she gives the pistol to the psychic chic saying don't worry I got plenty.
Later there is a scene where the psychic's boyfriend is teaching her to shoot. Of course you could tell nobody knew what the hell they were doing and the psychic muzzle control freaked me but she was carrying and learning defense.
In the finale she ended up shooting her bad hombre father in self defense.
Later she was attacked by the true serial killer but they let the boy friend do him in with a pistol.
Okay an incoherent synopsis but it was one of those chick flicks. What surprised me is they portrayed the handguns as defensive LIFE SAVING tools and especially the dixie doll nonchalant attitude.
The movie was made in 2007. The book was by Nora Roberts. Does this reflect a shift in perception for women or the film industry? I did a quick search and it tickled me the movie was actually shot in Canada.
