Trying to remove mag safety on a new Girsan
I have watched the videos and I managed to drive the pin out - but the safety will not come out even when I try to pry it out (with quite a lot of force)
Do I need to remove the trigger from the frame first?

Never disassembled a Girsan.......but IF what their website states......"Made with serious respect to John Browning Classic design, The Girsan High Power™ MC P35"....then
this is how the Belgian Browning Hi-Power magazine safety is removed. There is a retaining pin for the safety in the trigger assembly. Let us know how the Girsan is configured.

So these are instructions for a Browning?
I wonder if the Girsan is a different "Mark" ?
I did drive the pin from the trigger, but the mag safety won't come out, even though it does move fore and aft

I will try removing the entire trigger assem.

Thanks

Yes, remove the trigger assembly. Some HPs allow removal in place, but mine required removal of the assembly. When it’s out, it’s a simple matter to take out the mag safety.

I had to do OP's procedure to remove the mag safety on my 1989 MKIII. Made the trigger better but it's still kinda crusty.

Be sure to go right to left for removal. This is important as well as putting the trigger back in. You can look down into the trigger group and see the magazine disconnect while it's in the pistol. You should be able to manipulate the release which should tell you the Girsan is generally the same as a P35. Trigger is a PITA but just go slow and think it through.

I have some diagrams that if I can put my hands on them, I'll copy and send.

Thanks for all of the replies.
I only had to move the trigger slightly out of place and the mag safety and spring popped out.

It's not a bad idea at all to replace the trigger spring with the older style two coil one, which is heavier and gives you more positive trigger reset, once the magazine safety is removed and it's spring cannot help with trigger return.

Be advised, that the last time I have ordered a factory weight recoil spring from Wolff (17 Lbs, maybe some 5-6-7 years ago...) it was longer and required cutting of 2 full coils. so the slide won't bottom up against the compressed spring, but on the frame where it's suppose to. That is for a commercial Mk III pistol. It's not a real big deal on a Hi-Power, but still not what it's suppose to be and definitely doesn't add to the longevity of the parts in question - recoil spring, recoil spring guide, frame recess...

Hmmmm, I've been using Wolff since 1980 w/o any problems whatsoever. I'm not sure where you would be able to find a trigger spring outside of Wolff and the factory. You might insert some links if you have a better supplier.

BH Spring Solutions, Cylinder & Slide, Nighthawk, Jack First... And I was talking about a particular recoil spring, not the trigger one.

I’ve gotten some BHP parts from BH. Good stuff.

CS is now employee run and doing mostly smith work.

Jack First is about like Gunparts in that most parts are from outdated inventories. Nothing wrong with either, but it’s OEM.

Look for a LM from me. Hope it helps.
