Glock 17 Gen 4 VS Canik TP9 SF

That may be what Canik claims but I managed to mess mine up pretty well when installing Wilson Combat Vickers sights so I'm not so sure about the parkerized finish underneath.
Still the Canik is a really nice pistol. I'd rather shoot it than any Glock I own.

Looking at it now, the only gun that they make this claim on may be the new SF model. Perhaps answering for the finish critiques?

Parkerizing is part of the cerakoting process. And sand-blasting is part of the Parkerizing. So I imagine a proper cerakote always includes sand-blasting, acid etch/Parkerizing, cerakote.

Parkerizing is traditionally done for rust-resistance, because the phosphate coating is somewhat resistant, and it is porous enough to trap and retain oil. But as a step in Cerakoting, it is only done to make the cerakote stick, and it is not oiled. It doesn't add any hardness or scratch resistance...but that is what the cerakote is for.

A nitro carbide finish is a surface treatment that can't fall off and is extremely scratch, wear, and rust resistant. But properly done cerakote doesn't fall off and is extremely scratch, wear, and rust resistant.

As for the OP, I love Gen 3 Glocks. I get to shoot a couple of gen4's, regularly, and they're fine as far as the shooting goes. But I would not go out of my way to buy one. None of the "advantages" do anything for me. I am all about the older Gen 3 with the frying pan finish. So I can see selling a Gen4 for another gun... whether another Gen3 or something else, like the Canik.

IMHO, any complaints about the TP9 series are pretty much nit picking period, let alone considering the cheap price. My TP9V2 has a very nice slide to frame fit, the mags fit as well as any other gun I've ever owned, and the finish seems very well done. The original TP9 my friend has that got me interested in the TP9V2 when I shot it has been carried in the supplied holster a lot, and with thousands of rounds through it, it's proven it's "stamina". Is it the best gun ever? Nope, but it is one of the greatest "cheap" guns ever. If/when they make a compact one, I will be in line to buy one. Right now, my "cheap little 9mm" is the Taurus PT111 G2. For $200, it's one of the greatest bargains in a time where there are a lot of good cheap guns out there.

All I know is, I'm getting the V2 or SF model at some point because of my extremely positive experience with the SA.

I do wish though that they had an optional manual safety model. Those triggers are target pistol light and I'd be more comfortable with them if I had the option.

My Canik TP9SA was my favorite 9mm...until I picked up a like-new Steyr C9A1 recently. It is, hand on heart, the best polymer semi-auto I have tried. I love, love, love this gun.

My first-gen TP9 was a great gun. Sold it only because I'd had my fun with it and wanted to try something else. Mine had the desert tan finish, which seemed to hold up to normal wear just fine and cleaned up nicely. It was problem-free over the couple of years I had it. Everyone who saw it wanted to try it out, and I only recall one person not shooting it well. Something about the sights didn't agree with his eyes, I guess.

Anyway, I liked it, but it's no Steyr...

They also claimed the TP9 was chrome lined when they started importing. Only a small lot of them were.

The finish you don't know about is Melonite or Tenifer. It actually penetrates the metal to protect. Now you know something you clearly did not before.

I have owned many P99s and PPQs over 10 years. I have owned four Canik TP9s/TP9SA.

I don't have stock, I just know what I am talking about.

*for above, Steyr/Glock/Walther grips come from the same person.

I have a Steyr M40 and I do like it quite a bit. I would like an L9-A1 but have a few things on the list before I get to that.

I want to get the Canik TP9 SF but the only thing holding me back is the lack of spare parts . I am sure they can be found through Century Arms but it's nicer to be able to get them as easily as the 1911 and Glock parts.
Bottom line is that I am on the fence about selling my Glock 17 Gen 4 to get the Canik TP9 SF . What do you guys think ?

I'd dabbled in those Turkish guns. Had a couple of Tisas' & the 92 clone. They're ok but the finish was a little thin and parts and even mags were near impossible to get for less than $40. Dunno the situation of the TP9 but for anything other than a range toy, I'd rather have a Glock. I would never sell a G17 g4 for a Canik and I'm no Glock fanboy.

I had another mag for my TP9V2 4 days after I got the gun. I can't remember where I got it from, I've bought a lot of stuff lately. It was $25, shipped.
