I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before. Looking for a concealed carry gun and have handled both in the store and loved both, but was wondering if shooting the 26 would be that much harsher than the 19. Also I'm 6'5" tall and skinny as a rail, does anyone else with similar dimensions have trouble concealing the 19?

the only reason i got my g26 is because they didn't have any of the 19s for LE discount pricing at the 4 shops i checked.

i'd get the g19. not having a pinky on the grip makes it more difficult to shoot. i woudln't say harsher per se, but i don't enjoy shooting the 26 as much as a 19. doesn't really conceal any easier at all IMO either. the width is what will kill it, not the extra .5 inches or whatever on the grip. that's just my opinion though, i'm sure somebody else will chime in on the g19's favor though

No the 26 is NOT much harsher,

and

No the G19 conceals nicely

(as far as 6'5" and skinny you might ask Gilbert Arenas (who isn't so skinny)) and Javaris Crittenton (who kind of is) of the Washington Wizards, they clearly were concealing guns somehow. ;))

I previously owned a Glock 27 (the .40 version of the 26), and currently own a Glock 19. The Glock 26/27 is a decent gun for carry but you really don't sacrifice much by going with the Glock 19. As far as concealing the compact Glocks goes, you have many options. Depending on your area you could conceal it under a coat in a holster outside the waistband in the winter and inside the waistband with a loose shirt over it in the summer. It just takes some practice but you will be much more satisfied with the Glock 19 if you have medium or larger size hands.

Primary or occasional carry?

If the gun is primarily for concealed carry get the 26. If it is for only occasional carry get the 19.

I have a 26 and my dad has the 19. I shoot the 26 just as well as his 19. People are right when they say the 19 conceals "almost" as well as the 26. The key word here is almost. You're tall but as you say skinny as a rail so even that small amount of grip length may be the difference to whether you print or not.

If the gun is to be mainly a range gun to be carried occasionally then go for the 19.:)

I have a G19 that I carry a lot IWB under a polo shirt and no one really knows the difference. Having said that, I only got a 19 because I already had a single-stack subcompact for deeper concealment.

If I were to only get one gun, it'd be a 26 -- you can conceal it better (not by a whole lot, but still better) than a 19, and you can still use the 19's 15-round mags with a grip extension for range work.

GAP also makes a nice mag floorplate that doesn't make the grip any bigger, but gives a little better control. http://www.concealablecontrol.com/

Both! My G26 with the Glock +2 mag bases is almost as long in the grip as my G19's. But the barrel is shorter on the G26, which makes it a bit easier to conceal, especially when hot outside.

I have both. For me the G26 is a better carry gun. It starts off smaller than the G19, but even if I want a bigger grip or larger magazine capacity all I have to do is slip an A&G grip sleeve over one of my G19 magazines and I am set. Want a smaller pistol? Insert a standard G26 in the gun. Looking for a couple of extra rounds in a size that is kinda in between? A G26 magazine with a +2 Pearce extension will do the trick.

Versitility... the key to a happy CCW holder. ;)

19 sure is easy to shoot. Much easier than the 26.

Can't tell much difference between mine, but of course such things are mostly subject to each individuals preferences. Both of these targets were shot unsupported, rapid fire at 7 yards.... I'd be comfortable with either gun :)

FWIW, I no longer have the +2 extension on the G26 I actually think that I do better without it.

i say get the 19, apart from being the best handgun ever made by glock, it is also the perfect size, good enough for duty use, and carry. good enough size and capacity to fight with and easily concealed by about anyone.

The 26's double recoil spring gives me a little better return to target, although I can't prove it. It certainly seems to come back onto my targets quicker. And +2 mag additions take care of my grip.

^^^^^^^^^^ That is a pretty cool idea. I can put G19 mags with the sleeve in the gun for range and the stock G26 mags for carry. Don't know if I could actually take a knife to my gun, though. Would that void the warranty?

so you end up with a long slide 26?:barf:

what is the point? qualifying policemen and avid glock shooters have told me dozens of times that they actually shoot BETTER with their 26 than the 19 or even the 17... trimming down the grip of the 19 (while it seems like a good idea to start) gives you nothing more than, as stated, a long slide 26.. the discomfort of the 26 ( to some) and no shooting advantage as MANY have shared. In fact, the balance may be thrown off and your shooting may actually suffer...

Actually it produces the Glock version of the CCO (Commander slide on Officers frame) which so many 1911 carriers feel is a great trade off of concealment and balance.

From another site:
The advantages are retaining sight radius, balance and velocity while making the gun a little more concealable. The grip is what gives you away while carrying, not the barrel.

The disadvantage reduced capacity. However, that can't even really be counted. It may be considered that the grip chop adds to the versatility of the gun by allowing ultimate concealment when needed and capacity on demand by simply installing a G19 of G17 mag. There are collars that you can put on the longer mags to fill the gap between the baseplate and bottom of the grip on the smaller gun, making it feel like a full-sized gun again.
Like every mod, it's not for everyone. Try one before you dismiss the concept.

I have a G19, a G26, and this chopped 19. The latter has fast become my EDC.

I don't have a horse in this race since I don't like Glocks but I shoot them a bit and borrow them from a friend for new shooters to try out.

I don't like the 26 at all, neither does the owner, he tried to give me the gun.
He also tried to give me a G17, which I also refused.

Of the three, G17, 19 and 26 I dislike the 19 the least.
IMO the 19 is a good all around size. The grip on the 26 is too small.

My friend and his wife carry the G19 much of the time.

I have both a 19 and 26 (and 27, 22, and 35). IMO my 26 is more accurate than my 19. I normally use my Pearce +0 extension, and it's as comfortable to fire as the 19, while being slightly more concealable (obviously length-wise, but for the grip, think Ed Brown bobtail). It also allows the option of using the standard floorplate mags for even greater conceability (pocket, ankle, etc), or for using Pearce +2 or 19/17 mags for larger capacity.

If I could only keep one or the other, I would keep my Glock 26. Actually, if I could only keep one Glock for CCW, it would be my 26.

you missed the point completely... if the 26 is more accurate than the 17 to begin with, as many have said repeatedly, then what is the point of a 17 with the 26 grip length... your comparison to a long slide 1911 is unfounded as there is a huge difference between a POLYMER frame with a long METAL slide and a steel frame with a long slide... the weight distribution is completely different. HENCE, off balance.

I've got a G26 and G23 (which is of exactly the same dimensions as the G19). I added a Pearce +0 grip extension to all my G26 mags, and I find it to be more comfortable and easier to conceal than the G23; it's all because of the shorter grip. As far as accuracy is concerned, I really haven't experienced any issues with the 26. It feels less secure to wrap your pinkie under the grip than around it, but it didn't seem to negatively affect my shooting. Nonetheless, since the mag extensions make it feel as though I have a better/more secure grip, I prefer that configuration.

I'm not the one who missed the point. I never said long slide 1911-I said 'Commander' on an Officers frame (which can be made of lighteight aluminum).

And I have a G19 (not G17) cut to 26 length. Also read where I said
there's more to which one I carry than just accuracy
I believe I articulated the reasons I like the chopped 19 in my previous post.

So, it's not for you-we get that
