Glock 19 vs SIG P229

Narrowed the next purchase down to these two but can't decide.

Glock 19 or SIG P229 in 9mm.

Money isn't an option. This is for home defense, not carry.

I like the Sig P229R for home defense. However for carry I would prefer the Glock 19. Either would do well for home defense. I just feel the Sig is a better choice since it absorbs recoil well. I also like the Single Action very much on the Sig.

I've had a closely comparable gun, the P228, before my Glock 19. For me, the Glock's better hand fit, handling characteristics and consistent trigger action won me over. Between the two, accuracy and reliability is about equal. As mentioned, try to borrow or rent both and see which one you shoot best.

Voted Sig P229, that's why I own 3 of them, 9mm and 40cal.

However, bottom line will be which of the 2 fits your hands, your grip, draw, point to aim, balance, the best (most natural).

Renting and shooting them is further proof of what you feel and that is what it will come down to over the long run..

I have and like both either will work just fine. If it was for carry I would say the G19 it is smaller and lighter for a house gun it would probably turn on which you prefer subjectively. Some people really don't like SA/DA others have issues with glock grips, triggers etc.

Really you cannot go wrong either way. In my experience both are accurate, reliable and high quality weapons.

SIG P229 with the factory night sights, for home and range use just a preference, Glock G19 with night sights would be as good. I actually prefer a full size pistol for home D like the P226, but tritium sights are a must have. +1for the Glock is the cost of factory magazines and the ability to use G17 mags in the G19. Factory sights on the SIG are better, nothing wrong with Glock factory sights, that changing them won't cure.

Definately try both out on the range before purchase

Take into consideration that the SIG is an all metal and easier to handle and smoother triger pull for alot of folks, since your not carrying the pistol rather keeping it for home defense its might be bettar than the lightweight Glock 19

For home defense? Neither. Go with the full-sized gun (Glock 19 or P226).

Pick the one that points naturally for you. Until Glock comes out with the Gen4 frames (and maybe even then), Glocks and Sigs have very different grip angles. One will point naturally for you...the other won't. (In my case, Sigs point dead on, Glocks point high)

I would go with the Glock 19.

But since it's not a concealed carry handgun I would go with a full-sized pistol like the Glock 17.

I prefer the 229 slightly but I wouldn't buy one in 9mm, if you get the .40 you can pick up a 9mm conversion barrel.

I voted for Glock 19 here are my reasons;

1- Glock 19 is made from only 34 pieces. It is simple and "failure" chance is rather small.
2- Glock 19 will comply easily with quite long care-lubrification intervals
3- Pin hitting velocity enable to fire the ammunitions which is not complying with some other autoloaders. We may say Glock 19 does not choose the ammunitions and comply with all..
4- Light weight allows easy shooting for non-skillfull hands.
5- Non-existence of a safety is a plus in case of a panic, but in home defence extreme care must be payed for the safety of the kids in the house.
6- Handle of Sig is rather difficult for small handed user (i.e. for the womens)
