Glock 20 yes or no

I Think I want a Glock 20. Everybody should own a Glock, right.

The 10mm round intriuges me. This would be for a fun gun, no other reason.

I put one in my hands yeasterday & that thing was big. I do not consider myself to have small hands & it felt huge. I wear a large-XL golf glove for reference.

Any way what are you thought on the 20? How is the recoild in relation to a .357 Mag shot from a Smith 686?

The Glock 20 is amazing.

Recoil is pretty close when using full house loads.

I like mine, and have small to medium hands. Recoil is a non-issue, nothing like a hot .357
I use a 21# wolff spring and a LWD barrel. I reload all my own stuff, and it is my CCW piece. The 10mm is great fun, and does many things very well.

If you can get by the girth the G 20 and the G29 are excellent platforms for the 10mm round.

I haven't heard anything from Glock either way, but Lone Wolf will build a 10mm slide assembly for a 21SF. A little spendy, but about like getting two guns.

Or you could just buy a G30SF or G21SF to go with your G20 or 29 and swap the frames. Also a bit spendy but instead of having approximately two guns you would actually have two guns, and I don't know how much LWD slides cost, but I bet they aren't too far behind a stock Glock. Probably in the $300-$350 range.

I like my Glock 20, but the 10mm is a pretty oddball round. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably get a Glock 21 instead. I'm not bashing the 10mm, as I have two; a G20 and a Kimber. The 10's a good cartridge, but I've never been overly impressed with it.

Glock 20 is a fine choice.

The capacity is excellent and the 10mm auto is excellent.

I like mine, and have small to medium hands. Recoil is a non-issue, nothing like a hot .357

It has about the recoil of a .357 Magnum, but unlike in a revolver the recoil must function the slide and is not delivered all at once into the hand but gradualy through the recoil spring.
The result is it actualy feels like there is less recoil.

The recoil is certainly noticable, but felt significantly less than the same energy from a revolver.

As for hands, people with small strong hands should have no problem. If your grip is not very strong then it could be a little difficult unless you have large hands. The larger your hand the less grip strength is necessary because the hand is closed further.

I don't have large hands, but I do rock climbing and work with my hands on various things, so holding the gun still during recoil is not an issue.
Even the G29 with 2 fingers on the grip is just fine with a strong grip. Strengthen your hand grip if you have any issues.

i am not a fan of a glock in any caliber but 9mm. and i am not a fan of the 10mm. so i wouldn't get one but that is up to you. i would go with a 19, 17, or worse case scenario a 26

The way my Glock 21 doesn't fit me, I've passed on the 20, now if they offer a 20SF I'd certainly give it a try.

The Glock 20 and 21 feel, to me, like a plastic 2x4 with grooves cut into it.

I'd get one if I lived, or spent lots of time in, bear country. Other than that I don't like them.

If you like the feel of it, buy one, I don't think that there is any other handgun that can unleash as much usable power between reloads.

I have a G20C and it's one of my favorites. Ammo is kinda' hard to find and most factory ammo is comparable to the .40s&w in power. Double Tap and some others are exceptions.
Before I started reloading I bought a 40s&w KKM conversion barrel to save on ammo costs.
If I had to rely on factory ammo, I'd probably pass on it.

One more thing on the .40 vs 10mm in Glocks, for a brief while I owned the G-20 and the G-35 at the same time.

Shooting side by side the recoil was less with the G-20 shooting CCI Blazers in both guns. Granted the CCI 10mm load is only slightly hotter than their .40 version, but the 20 was clearly a softer shooter.

The G-20 was also far more accurate for me at 25 yards, even using the KKM .40 converion (highly recomended). With the .40 conversion, the recoil made me laugh.

Plastic 2X4? Yeah, kinda, but it's a real nice shootin' gun that can deliver the goods.

Yes for the amount of power it delivers it is a soft shooter. When someone asks what it is like though I think of Norma level powers only because that is what it does that the .40S&W can not.
But even when delivering .40S&W power levels it is softer because the larger cartridge capacity allows you to reach the same pressures with less of an immediate spike. So you can deliver the same energy with less instant recoil.

.45 and .40 can do anything the 10mm can do

Ha ha. The .45 penetrates horrible due to its wide diameter and low energy on large animals or through cover. Once you put a .45ACP through cover most of its energy is used up, especialy with expanding ammunition.

The .40 S&W is a fine round, and the same as the 10mm Auto's low level loadings. It does not however have the versatility in power of the 10mm Auto.
You could defend yourself against a large bear with the 10mm if you had to. While round for round many more powerful revolvers seem better, you can deliver a lot more 10mm Auto rounds and they penetrate deep with the right loading.
You can also hunt things like deer very easily with a 10mm Auto. How many people down deer with one shot from a .40S&W?

The 10mm Auto is very similar to a .357 Magnum. The Glock 20 is like 16 rounds of .357 Magnum.
If you really want a .357 bullet you can also use 9x25Dillon from a 10mm auto gun, and send rounds screaming at around 2,000 FPS, with the same round capacity and generating around 900 foot pounds per round from a short barrel pistol. The 9x25Dillon is just a necked down 10mm Auto. All you need to do is buy a barrel.
You can't do that from a .40 S&W gun.
You can also get a .40S&W barrel for your 10mm Auto, but you can't get a 10mm Auto barrel for your .40S&W.

I've got my 3rd Gen G21 10 mm conversion functioning at 99% reliability. The last three range trips have been flawless.

I completed the conversion with the foillowing drop in parts...

- KKM .45 : 10 mm Conversion Barrel
- Glock OEM 10 mm Magazines
- Stainless Steel Guide Rod
- 22 lb. Recoil Spring

My favorite 10 mm ammo is Double Tap's 1600 fps, 767 ft/lbs, 135 grain Nosler!

In the 185 grain weight class, you can get 90% of 10 mm range performance with Double Tap .45 ACP ammo.

10mm automatically makes you 79% manlier. It is not recommended for Women, as they may become more manly than the Men.

10mm is measured in Kilotons, not Pound Feet. My loads are 240KT gold dots.

Just picked up another one yesterday. I got it and an extra 6" hunting barrel from LW. As for the aesthetics of the Glock, it will grow on me eventually. I've only been shooting them since 1992 so I know it will happen sometime. What sells me on them is their unfaltering reliability. I've never had a 9mm or 10mm Glock platform give me any trouble. I've heard about the KB!s from .40 guns but that's what they get for screwing with a perfectly good 10mm round and turning it into some Nancy Boy cartridge. The Glock Large Frames were designed around the 10mm frame. Then they went and converted a perfectly good 10mm to .45 auto to appeal to the less intelligent. (OK, I had to throw a dig in there as I can't shoot 1911 style handguns worth a spit.)
Col. Cooper put a lot of rounds of just about every kind down range and worked hard to get the 10mm going. Had it not been for D&D going belly up and the FBI deciding that their "less manly" agents couldn't handle 10mm recoil, the world of shooting might have been a very different place. As it is, I'm happy to pop anything with a 10mm or anything else that starts with a 4.
