Hi all,
I was just looking for some input on how you would rate a glock 29, I own a 1st gen. model 20, I like the 10mm & I'm also a advid reloader so ammo is not a probelm, the 20 is kind of big & bulky to carry, that's why I was considering the 29
is there any problems with these that anyone knows about?how would you rate its accuracy? let me know your thoughts
thanks..

I don't own a 29... just my G20 which I love. I too am considering a 29 for CC. I wonder how the recoil is with full-house DoubleTap's. Most of what I have read about them has been positive.

A minor point but there is no "1st Gen" G20. The earlier ones are 2nd Generation in frame design.

As for the G29, unless you get some kind of after market grip extension for the magazines it is a 2 finger grip. That can be a problem for some of the full power ammunition out there (and maximum hand loads). My experience with one was that it wasn't objectionable but I much preferred shooting it with +0 extension.

Dave thanks for the correction on the model 20 , I tagged it first gen becuase i bought it when it was first offered by glock back in the 90's

I was wondering about the recoil,( how bad it was) & I also agree with you about the extension,
I have a g27 & I put an estension on that because it would kind of " creep" around in your hand with the corbon 135gr jhp's I would shoot thru it at the range
thanks for the insight..

The 29 is my favorite Glock. As far as kick goes, I've shot 10mm out of a Kimber 1911, and IMHO, the 29 has more control than a 5" steel 1911 with the same load. It's got some muzzle flip, but I don't find it punishing. I guess it depends on load. Georgia Arms has some great practice ammo that still gets you 500 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. I've even shot a .40 S&W Hi Power that I found harder to shoot than the 29. YMMV.

As far as accuracy goes, I have never measured it formally, but groups certainly combat accurate. No better or worse than other Glock models in other calibers.

As far as concealed carry goes, unless you're a big guy, or you plan on CCW with a vest or jacket over a belt holster, I think it's still too big to carry comfortably IWB. It's a bulky gun, even with some meat chopped off the slide and the grip. It doesn't change the overall girth.

All that being said, that's just my opinion with my body type, and you may be able to CCW with it. Certainly you won't be lacking in firepower.

I have been carrying a 29 IWB for about 4 months now. Although a bit bulky it is still quite comfortable.

Pearce grip extensions make a huge difference and I also use an extra power wolff recoil spring. I have never fired a 20 but I do not consider the 29 With 165 Double Taps at all uncontrolable

.

I've carried a Glock 29 for almost 3 years now. It is a big pistol and probably bigger than what most would consider for concealed carry. I would advise getting the grip extensions if you get the pistol. As a reloader, one thing I have noticed is that published load data is for "full sized" pistols and I ended up blowing a lot of unburned powder out the muzzle. I haven't chronographed the difference so I don't have numbers but I imagine there is considerable velocity loss. That being said, I really like my G29 and, as I have learned to live with it wouldn't trade it for anything. It is accurate, reliable, easy to maintain (daily concealed carry), and 10mm Auto.
