Hey THR!

Need a little help with some opinions on two holsters for the Glock 30 .45 ACP.
I always prefer to carry IWB whenever possible so that is my first thing to look for when looking for a holster.

Now, Im about 5'8 and around 200 LBS. Throwing it out there in case it helps in making a choice on holsters. I will be ordering on line. I have exactly $45 to spend and that is what the Alien Gear 2.0 and the Desantis Cozy Tuck would cost.

I would like to know what is you guys opinion on these holsters or if you have any advice on something else. The fact that I can adjust cant and height is a plus for me honestly. In regards to that, Should I go with the 1.0 rather than the 2.0 if it comes down to it? Also the fact that I can tuck in my shirt is a nice thing as well.

Any reason I should go with anything else over the Alien one ATM? I'm sort of sold on it but I wouldn't reading the forums opinion.

No experience with Alien Gear holsters but have several different DeSantis holsters that I really like. I have a couple of their SOF-TUCK holsters for my Kahr CM9, SIG P238, and S&W Model 638 and all fit me very comfortably and do a great job with concealment. I also have one of their OWB models, a Mini-Slide, for my Ruger SR9c that does a phenomenal job of keeping the gun up against my side.

Thanks for the reply BannockBurn,

Do they ever move out of place or do you have any difficulty re-holstering?

No they stay in place just fine and I have no problem reholstering them either. I was really amazed at how snug the Mini-Slide was with my Ruger SR9c and how nice of a job it did in concealing it.

My experience with concealment holsters;
I like holsters that attach to the belt at two places, with those two places being far away from eachother. I've tried many of the designs out there, and the Milt Sparks Versa Max / TT Gunleather Reinforced IWB / Desantis Mad Max / Crossbreed Supertuck / Alien Gear IWB designs / etc. have been the type that I find perform the best with a heavier firearm. The weight is distributed well, and the gun is held closest to the body due to the spaced out belt attachment. As well, the Milt Sparks and its copies hold the butt of the gun very close to your side, contouring to your shape a bit more. In my experience, the single attachment point holsters such as the Soft Tuck / Don Hume H715 / etc. don't support the firearm as well, and allow the firearm to move a little more than with the former holsters. The holsters such as the Cozy Tuck with two attachment points have been better than those with one clip, but did not perform as well as the first few I mentioned. For mine to stay in place, I needed to place the holster so that a belt loop on my pants sat between the holster's attachment loops. This is just my experience, of course.

Thanks everyone for your insight and opinions :)
I would absolutely want and need it to stay close to my body. Ill save up the extra few bucks for a better holster.

When I carry IWB, it's in an Alien Gear holster. Frankly, I like it. Hides a 5" 1911 under a T-shirt with no problems. I ordered the leather loops and found that I wasted my money, the supplied spring steel clips are plenty secure. Holster does not move.

I like my Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 2.0, but if I was you I would get the 3.0 if possible. The 2.0 had some issues which they addressed with the 3.0

Why I like Aliengear Holsters

I'm the type of guy who tends to do a whole "lotta lookin", and a whole "lotta readin" before I spend much cash on anything; something I've always noticed about people talking about what holsters they like best; if you've ever noticed, when the topic gets to holsters, an awful lot of guys start out saying......"well....I have a whole big drawer full of holsters that I never use"........", which kinda tells me that these guys probably spent more time listening to "other people's opinions" than they did doing a lot of looking and thinking about what they really needed to do exactly what they wanted to do.

I like guns about as well as the next guy, but because guns aren't my only interest in life, I sure don't want to end up with that traditional "whole drawer full" of unused holsters that so many guys seem to have, and I don't want to have any more cash tied up in "anything" just because I "like" it.

I took up pistol shooting pretty late in life compared to most people, and I figured until I find out I have a definite "need" for more, I'm only gonna be really "needing" one pistol; (I know, most guys have a whole drawer full of them too....); anyway, I musta spent a couple years determining exactly what that ONE pistol was gonna be;

I was attracted to Glocks early on, became pretty familiar with the Glock line, and finally bought me a new Gen 4, G-34 MOS (which I'm probably gonna have a Leupold Delta Point Pro on the slide before long. )

I spent a fair amount of time looking at holsters; (about the only thing I can think of that's more "numerous" than holsters, is "other people's opinions"; mind you, I'm an opinionated guy my self.....and I think everyone should be; but I'm also a big believer in forming my OWN "opinions" about what I "need" and spend my fairly limited number of "bucks" on. After evaluating about 10 thousand (it seemed like) different holsters, I just kept going back to Aliengear; at the point I had decided to go with their "cloak tuck 2", shortly before I ordered it they came out with the "cloak tuck 3"; IMO, they're both great, but the tuck 3 is just a little bit "greater", mainly because of the thin piece of stainless steel "inside" that you cant even see; (take my word for it, the extra $8 bucks for that piece of SS is money well spent! )

I don't know if you have a real "dedicated" gun belt or not, but if you don't, the next thing you really NEED, is a real gun belt! I'm sure there are probably a lot of great gun belts out there, but I think Aliengear's belt is probably at least as good as any out there, and it has the extra advantage of being available with a nice discount if you order it at the same time you order one of their holsters. Being the frugal sort, I saved the extra $12 by ordering my tuck 3 along with my black gun belt.

The belt also has a thin, narrow strip of stainless spring steel between two thicknesses of high quality leather, and it also has a fine "roller" buckle that's MANDATORY in my book.

Guess what? all of my "research" has paid big dividends, as I think the tuck 3 and that fine belt to carry it with is the best IWB set-up you're gonna find anywhere! I absolutely LOVE the thing! (And it was all my "idea"! ) I should probably also mention that Aliengear's extremely well thought-out and very helpful website made the whole process a distinct pleasure!

When I carry IWB (which isn't often), I like a simple clip on kydex holster, but I do have a drawer full of different holster designs including Alien and Crossbreed for the G26 and G19. Alien has a great price and offers the shell-swap deal, which is pretty cool. Since all of the big-slab-o-leather holsters are basically the same, you might as well get a deal too.

I've got an AlienGear 3.0 that I carry my Glock 43, works fine for 4-6 oclock on me. But that's about the limit, but I'm a thinner fellow, 170lbs and 6 foot. However, a DeSantis SoftTuc lets me carry a Glock 17 square on my hip, or in back, or just about anywhere. And they're a heck of a lot cheaper, I'd say check them out. Amazon has them for $20 bucks give or take, so if you're a prime member there you go.
