Glock 34 barrel in a 26. DON'T DO IT!

While messing around with my Gen4 34 and 26 I thought it would be cool to install the 34 barrel in the 26. I know, If you don't think to well don't think too much. Everything looked like it was going to work just fine. The slide went on with no resistance. Although it didn't return all the way forward and wouldn't rack properly. No amount of working the slide, slide release or trigger would allow the slide to come back off. I was really worried. I had just effectively disabled both of my glocks! :banghead:
Removing the trigger pins was no help. I finally removed the baseplate and the slide internal parts through the back. After releasing the slide stop it came right off. What a relief!
From what I have learned now is that glock 34 barrels can be installed on a 17 of the same gen and 19 barrels can be installed on 26's of the same gen. Upon examining the 34 and 26 barrel I can see that the lugs are different. This is what was causing the problems.

I did the exact same thing. Mine was a little more stuck than yours. I ended up snapping the guide rod to get my slide off the 26.

It sure looked cool though. I was bummed that it wouldn't work. Bummer on the guide rod. I'm glad I got off easier than that.

Basically the full size frames have one set of barrel lug dimensions, the compacts and sub-compacts share another set of barrel lug dimensions.

Don't put a .357SIG barrel in a Gen2 .40 though. The early Gen2 .40 frames didn't have enough metal reinforcement, the later Gen2 .40 frames did but only Glock would be able to tell you per your serial number.

Removing the slide cover plate and firing pin assembly also works to get the slide off if you neglect to put the barrel and RSA into the slide while demonstrating how the slide goes on properly.
