95 grain Remington FMJ.

HP-38 2.9gr 100% fail to extract (fired great in LCP)
HP-38 3.1gr 100% fail to extract (fired great in LCP)
(Lee manual which copied Hodgdon info stated 2.9start 3.2 max)

Titegroup loads.
Data 2.7 start, 3.2 max

2.7 - FTE, LCP fine
2.9 - FTE (exception of 1 stovepipe), LCP fine
3.1 - 100% eject/cycle

These were small batches (8 rounds each to start with).

Temp was 30*, but rounds were indoors overnight and in a warm car on the way to outdoor range. Were maybe outdoors 20 min before being fired, so possible that temp played a role

I will load max loads of 3.1 and 3.2 HP-38 and try again. I may also need to trickle some very accurate throws at 3.3 and 3.4 to test. I don't like the idea of setting my Auto-Drum to 3.3 in the event it were to throw a 3.5 in a few rounds.

I will also have to test the Titegroup at 3.2 and 3.3. If they are all safe, no signs of pressure, looks like it will be 3.1 with errors going to 3.0 and 3.2 being safe/useful still hopefully.

Anyone loading for G42? Interestingly some HERTERS loads were having some problems ejecting as well... Gun was recently cleaned, and last range trip was 100%. Did field strip and inspect at the 1/2 way point, and everything seemed to be in order, but not ruling out gun involvement.

My 42 requires max loads of PowerPistol for reliable function. It did not like the low end stuff I had previously loaded up for a Bersa. Interestingly, the Glock is still softer shooting.

I havent tried other powders yet.

BigMac, Art Of Golf, Jell-dog and I recorded some good info in the Handloading for the G42 and other loading 380 threads.
As AOG said, the G42 does need warmer loads than the LCP or other 380s. They do get easier once they are broken in. And I recommend a detail strip of the slide assembly and a good cleaning of the firing pin channel, and extractor plunger areas.

The loads that worked perfect in the LCP, Sig P238, and Beretta 84 would be too weak for the Wharf Rat. I had to bump up a little to get the Rat to be happy.

Another question, what is the COAL you are using? That may play a factor as some data I've seen list the max OAL. I loaded Berry's and RMR 100 gr bullets at .955" over 2.8 grains of Promo (Red Dot data).

I use Power Pistol , tried unique but not hot enough, look at alliant load data for PP no problems after that. that's with 88 gr 95 gr and 100gr heads. love that little pistol.

On my to do list is loading both bullseye and Unique for my G42 has been on my list for a while. I will load some up next weekend and let you know how it goes. I am also worried about using my powder drop for these loads as the min and max are tight and I dont have a trickler. i have both plated and jacketed bullets to load and test.

I thought I had listed the OAL. I went 0.975. As my manual listed 0.970 as min OAL
I am starting to think about looking at PP powder. HP38 was what I was thinking would be good for a very versatile (stock up) powder. I shoot mostly titegroup (don't know why), over the HP 38, but have a good load with the 38 that I can always go back to.

The Glock has a heavier slide and recoil spring than say the Ruger LCP. It needs a bit more"power" to cycle

What you can do is take a unloaded gun, remove magazine and sit there and rack the slide 100 times, (not dry fire) Then do it 100 more times.

Leave the gun with slide locked back over night. It will tend to loosen up the recoil spring without having to fire 100's of rounds. No it is not as good as actual firing but does help.

I tried HP38 and Universal with disappointing results. Bullseye seems to work best, so I would guess that a fast burning powder is needed for the best results.
