Just bought a Ruger 45 ACP LC Carbine. It uses Glock mags. The only thing on Ruger’s website is:
Designed to accept commonly available Glock-pattern full size magazines
I assume that means BOTH gen 4 and gen 5 mags will work. Is there any reason to prefer gen 5 over gen 4 or vice versa?

Called Ruger and they said gen 4 mags … definitely go with gen 4.

Are there issues/problems with gen 5 mags?

I wouldnt think so, unless its got something to do with the 45acp mags.

I use Gen 3,4, and 5 mags interchangeably in all my 9mm handguns with no issue. Used them all in my 9mm carbine too while I had it.

The only thing I can think of different with the newer Gen mags is, they work with the ambi mag releases, the Gen 3's wont.

I can't think of any reason ANY generation of Glock magazine wouldn't work. The early ones might not work if you have an ambi mag release on your gun and if you press on the left side to drop the mag. But they should work right-handed.

GEN 5 usually is identical but with an orange follower. Not sure specifically with the 45ACP mags though.

My Gen 5 9mm Glock magazines work just fine in my Ruger PC9, as do all the other Gen 3-4 ones, too. (Still have some hi-cap ban magazines from the 1990’s that work.) There shouldn't be an issue with their .45 mags in your gun.

Stay safe.

The tech support lady at Ruger disappeared for awhile when I asked: gen 4 or gen 5? When she came back she said she had talked to “parts supply” and they said “definitely gen 4”.

I don’t think that means gen 5 won’t work but it could mean that gen 4 is simply more popular and easier to get.
