Glock tech at the "smithy" told me the other day, that I was gonna need a new barrel for the G22. He also pointed out a wear spot in the slide called "peening" that is common to G22s and Glocks in general.

The peening issue made me question his worth as it is known to wear exactly that way until it's done, then no more wear ever.

So, the real question here is regarding the barrel, where it fits into the ejection port. Anyone seen this before and have comments?

Last two photos show it the best

Thanks!

Looks pretty normal to me. Like a Glock that has actually been shot. That wear looks just exactly like the one I'm wearing right now. I don't think I'd worry about it too much. You might want to check around for another 'smith.

Thanks much for your input DesertScout! Kinda what I'm thinking but wanted to see if anyone else had this wear pattern...thanks again!

Don't really know, this one was bought as police trade-in. Guess is 4 to 5 thousand?

Just replaced recoil spring, firing pin spring and had the rear sight drifted a smidgen. Anxious to take it back out now!

Wear/galling is completely normal in a semi-auto. Like DesertScout said, you may want to look for another 'smith. Maybe he was just trying to sell you a new barrel.

That wear on the top of the barrel hood is why newer Glocks have a taper in that area from the factory...in some guns it caused problems (locked up)...looks like yours fixed itself.

A new barrel may not be a bad idea though...hows the slide look at the top (front) of the ejection port.

Should only be a problem if the lockup is excessively loose.
I bought a new LWD barrel and it locked up so tight that occasionally it wouldn't lock up fully. I eliminated the problem by making a slight chamfer in the barrel lug where you are experiencing wear. I just to removed the sharp top edge.

I had a 31 (357SIG) that was really beating the underside of the slide up, and it continued to do it without let up, while I had the gun. The upper portion of the barrel looked new, and nothing like yours. I was told by a couple of people the peening was normal, and would stop by itself at some point, but I didnt see that happening. When I got rid of it, it had somewhere around 5000 rounds through it.

I shoot a fair amount of +P and +P+ 9mm out of a couple 17's and 26's, and none show any peening or wear on the barrel, and any one of them has more rounds through them than the 31 did. The one 17 which has the highest round count at this point, which is probably in the 8000-10000 round range, does show some impacts on the underside of the slide from the locking block, but only in wear on the finish itself, the metal on the slide doesnt show the hammering/peening the 31 did.

Man you have have nothing to worry about. Thats just a glock thats been shot. After about 4 or 500 rds you start to see that finish wear off. I have 3 glocks here that all look that way.

My adivice would be to contact Glock. Maybe with just the photos you took they can answer your question. If anyone would know, they would.
