I only recently found out that there are conversion barrels available to fit my .40 caliber Glock 22, 2nd generation. Back when I first bought it(early '90's), nothing like this was available, & there were only rumors of .22 cal Glock conversion kits to come. Well, the best available .22 LR conversion kit now costs well over $200 & is fussy about ammo- best to shoot CCI mini mags, which locally cost almost $5/100.
Now I find out that there are drop-in replacement barrels available to shoot 9mm in my .40 caliber, I saw some on sale for just under $100. At less than $4/50, 9mm is a *lot* cheaper to shoot than the cheapest .40 cal I've seen. I'd have the same pistol, sights, & trigger for practice, & recoil would be a lot closer to .40 cal than a .22. Hmm...The cheapskate's perfect solution?
I understand that I'll need to buy a couple of Glock 17 magazines to shoot the 9mm ammo for practice, that's OK. BUT:
* Will these bbls work on my 2nd gen model 22?
* just how reliable are these barrels? I'd re-assemble it as a .40 cal for "home duties", but I'd hate to spend $150 just to have a jam-o-matic for practice.
* Will the extractor on the .40 cal gun work on the 9mm shells?
* Other than the bbl & magazine, do any other parts in the gun need to be swapped?
And: Is it possible to use a longer Glock bbl in a shorter Glock model? For example, can a bbl from a Glock 17 be used in a Glock 19? Glock 22 bbl in Glock 23?
And about triggers: do any of the brands of 3.5 lb trigger connectors have a real advantage over any others? Back when I got my Glock(almost pre-internet!) you pretty well lived with the trigger you had, that also seems to be much different now. I thought for the time being I'd just get the 3.5# connector, plus maybe a NY return spring, & do a little cleanup & polishing.
All help appreciated.
