I decided to satisfy my yearning for a 10mm longslide with the G40. Felt that $665 was a pretty good price for a new one. Except that this version comes with the 10 round not the 15 round mags. It is due in my hands next week.

I have a Gen 3 G20 with 15 round mags. Will those mags fit in the new G40?

(I have converted the G20 to a 50GI and use the mags in the G29 if the spirit moves me).

Would like to know if they'll work in the G40 as well. Thanks!

Rodentman: congrats on the G40. Better price than I paid. Mine came with 3 4thGen 15-rd mags, but the older 15-rounders for my G20 have run fine in it too.

I've only put about 300-rds thru mine - variety of factory loads along with some reloads - but there were NO function or reliability problems whatsoever. This gun is silly accurate too.

Only real issues for me will be replacing the factory sights (preferably with Trijicons) and, eventually, purchasing the right holster. Since this will be a dedicated woods/boonies gun, I'll be looking for an open-carry rig that secures the gun well (keeping my hands free) but permits quick access if something pops up on the trail that needs muzzling.

I'm undecided, at this time, about mounting a micro RDS. I want to get more trigger time with the irons, while waiting for the aftermarket to catch up to the MOSs.

Supposedly, both KKM and LWD have ready-to-ship replacement 10mm tubes of different lengths for the G40. I'll be picking up one for digesting my HardCast handloads.

AGTMAN, thx for the quick response! I will find the G20 mags and get them cleaned up for the new G40! I love the 10mm and have also a 610-3 and 310NG in addition to the DW Sportsman and G29.

I'll be looking into replacement bbls too. I have a couple of EFK bbls which have really short chambers which makes me nervous, having to seat the bullets for them. So I have pretty much set them aside.

I installed a Trijicon RMR on a friend's G40 last week. What a soft shooter. It's so big it's like shooting a 9mm.

I'm seriously looking at this leather Alaskan Guide Holster (AGH) for my G40. Here's the link:

AGH: http://www.diamonddcustomleather.com/Chest_Holsters.php

If you scroll down a ways, you'll see a pic with the "G20/G21" in the holster ....

But first I want to see some field reports from G40-users on how it actually handled while out and about, ... like from guys wearing it while fishing for salmon off the river banks.

Did that Trijicon RMR mount ok with one of the supplied mounting plates? Did you need to file down the mounting screws? I have read that on some scopes that was needed.

Thx

I mounted a DP Pro to my 34MOS without having to file anything down.

Thank you for the info. I thought the gun would have shipped by now. I'll call tomorrow.

Yes! It shipped today and I'll have it Monday. I got to handle one at a local Cabela's but their price was $100 more than what I paid. But theirs had the 15 round mags, and mine ships with the 10's. But the 2 15 rounders I have from my G20 will work fine.

It's about what I expected to see, a large Glock. I am anxious to run some of my reloads thru it.
