Glock magazine capacity

What is the internal difference between a 10 round magazine and a standard capacity magazine. Is capacity limited by the follower, or some insert like a plug in a shotgun? Or is it limited by some permanent difference in the mag body?

The mag body is molded with ribs it in that force the mag to essentially single-stack the cartridges (at least that's the case for the 9mm 10-rnd). Works fine for feeding 10-rnds, but from my understanding its not reversible.

Other companies (I know S&W and Ruger) have a basically compact-sized mag body that only holds 10-rnds and then attach a plastic base that extends the rest of the way down the mag-well. Not much you could do there as its literally only half a mag body.

Ruger does it like this. Both are 10 round, both will work in the SR9c, only the longer of the two works in the SR9 and both plastic bases are removable.

But the metal bodies are exactly the same.

The ONLY use I can think of for neutered Glock mags is that I found that I could never get .400 Cor-Bon or .40 Super to feed from standard-cap, double-stack Glock mags. Both feed o.k. from the Klintonista mags.

Actually there is one way around it. If you own a G-17, buy 10 round G-22 mags. They hold 15-16 rounds of 9mm IIRC. They fit and function just fine in 9mm guns. Same with 10 round .40 mags working in 9mm Sigs and Beretta. Would also work in the old P series Rugers. Not sure about the SR series of Rugers.

If you conform those .40 feed lips to 9mm feed lip specs, they'll work even better.

Yeah, I'd use a 9mm follower, but that's irrelevant to my recommendation; you'd still need to conform the feed lip separation to 9mm specs.

I'm assuming the feed lip would need to be altered or the rounds won't stay in the mag?

The SW M&P9c compact use a shorter mag body and taller mag base for the 10 vs the 12 round mag.
