I watched a show last night on Sportsman Channel or Outdoor channel. It was Gun Stories from Midway USA. The subject was Glock pistols. It was a really neat show. They interviewed numerous "gun experts". My favorite part was when Ken Hackathorn said if he was on an island and could only have 1 pistol, he said Glock 17. Made me proud to be a Glock owner.

There are other reliable pistols, but no other auto pistol has a reputation for reliability like the Glock. No frills, no extra levers or safeties to break or malfunction, just a rugged reliable tool that you can have confidence in. Thats what makes the Glock beautiful to me.

the coolest gun show i've seen is deadliest warriors on spike channel! it's not always "scientific", but who cares? it's entertaining!

Yeah, it's an entertaing show and a pretty informative one at that. Where else are you gonna someone put a six pound cannonball through a gelatin torso complete with simulated anatomy and skeletal structure and then run it in slow motion, too? Now, that is "stopping power" if ever there was such a thing. :D

I could do without the co-host who seems to feel compelled to always scream those 3 ! 2 !! 1 !!! countdowns through the show though. It becomes pretty annoying after a bit...

Back OT- the Glock 17 sure is one tough pistol. Chuck Taylor has over 277,000 rounds through his G17 as of just over a year ago. Most guns would be a "smooth bore" at that point. :)

Glock show was informative.

Not a Glock guy myself. Sorry, but too many non-shooter yuppie types all ran out and bought Glocks around here. It was the trendy gun here back in the early 80s and that alone turned me off. Too many dorks went out and bought those when they first became big. I just always go the opposite way when "People" all start buying a certain thing.

Secondly they are just frugly. Just my personal opinion.

I know they are very functional and a great tool. etc... Also then they were only available in 9mm. Not my round of choice. I know they work and many LEOs and competitors have great success.

I am old enough that when I think auto I think 1911.

But the show explained a lot about why it is ugly and why it works.

Refering to those who own Glocks (regardless of when they purchased them) as "dorks" is kinda over the top ain't it?

Can we avoid the name-calling please?

He wasn't using the term 'dork' for ALL Glock owners. He was saying that Glock ownership was in part given a bad aura for him because many dorks (which you must admit do exist) went and bought Glocks (which is certainly possible). ;)

I just bought a Baby Glock myself...

Hmmm. I'd take "none of the above". Give me a rifle. If it had to be a handgun, it wouldn't be a 9mm. I'll take my 629.

Saying dorks bought Glocks isn't tantamount to all Glock owners being dorks. Rednecks usually own pick-up's, but that doesn't mean all pick-up owners are rednecks.

Don't be so sensitive.

Regards,
Glock 20 owner

Asking that we keep it civil and leave the name-calling out can hardly be construed as being "sensitive". Wasn't like I went and hit the report button, dude.

I simply made a respectfully phrased request.

that was some great watching, and history on the firearm. had a glock26 and 17L, sold them both not my cup of tea, but they did set the standard on polymer pistols.

I think some of you need to not read things into posts that are not there and not be so defensive.

I said I saw too many uneducated yuppie dorks around here buy them back in the early 80s.

I did not call Glock owners dorks... I am sure most Glock owners do not qualify LOL

It was just that back then here those "individuals" buying and shooting them here were not what one would call educated or experienced shooters and were prone to have bought one so they could brag about the Xray proof killer gun they had... Sorry to me that is a dork.

Not someone who bought a glock because they found it met their needs and actually either already new how to shoot or went about learning safely and shooting in a mature and careful manner.

I was just stating a reason I did not jump into Glocks when they first came out.

I have that episode recorded on my dvr, haven't watched it yet. Now I really want to. Gun stories is a legit show, good quality IMO.

the glock 17 is one of the most durable pistols made but i also might want something larger than 9mm on a deserted island and i own a 19

Ah man I felt so cool when I bought all my glocks...all 8 of them, but really I was just a dork times 8 :)

The "dork" label for Glock owners is wrong anyway, so quit it.

"Cult member" is more correct.

I love to fondle and fuss over my pretty 1911s. However, if I am going someplace where a gun might get dirty, scratched or wet, I am a member of the glocks n dorks cult. and proud of it!

Hey General, I saw that show as well and thought it was pretty entertaining, especially the history of how Gaston Glock came up with his design and how he approached the market. It was a very neat exposition on how the Free Market works to continually give us better products at reasonable prices.

What I didn't like was how they interviewed a few Gun Magazine Writers and positioned them as "experts." I think it would have been much better if, in addition, they interviewed a few real military and swat operators and got their thoughts on the Glock. It would be very interesting to hear from folks who fire many thousands of rounds to become instinctive shooters and hear what they have to say.

I chose a Glock 19 after a lot of research and deliberation and many years of just not warming up to them, so you can call me a late adopter. I'm very happy with my choice and think the Glock system is very hard to beat if you need a reliable pistol for serious social purposes. The Glock is not perfect, but pretty damn close to best for what I was looking for.

Buncha dorks in the '40s and '50s jumped on the .38 Special revolver too. Buncha dorks jumped on the 1911 as well. We're all just a buncha gun dorks. Nothin' wrong with being a gun dork.

That is to funny, I am also old enough to have lived through the 1911 & Gunsite worship, I think just as many dorks bought 1911's, it's called a trend and evolution.
I still have a few 1911's but they sit in the safe while the Glock's ride on the belt.

yeah those dummies they shoot that "bleed" and blast apart with chunks of "meat" are the bomb! they pit the coolest guns against eachother too. i can't watch that "top shot" show because of the annoying drama, but deadliest warriors rocks! :)
