I've wanted a Glock 19 for a long time and I'm finally thinking about getting one. After doing some research though I've been seeing a LOT of people complain about problems with them, as well as with other models. I've heard of a few problems but most notably extractor issues with weak extraction, erratic extraction, and/or brass to the face. It seems like it's mostly the late Gen 3s and 4s with the issues. Has anybody had problems like this, especially with new Glocks? Any help would really be appreciated.

I have a glock 27 and have only had a few times where it misfed. I changed ammo and all was good. I bought some reloaded ammo and had the most problems with that.

Glock

I initially wrote a post on how "no one on earth can possibly believe Glock's unreliable" Then I realized either it was satire, a joke, or a troll. Good one. Ha! Ha!.

Buy an old one. Nothing easier to swallow buying used than a Glock.

Cheaper, too.

I own 7. G17, G19 X3, G20, G21, G26. Mostly Gen 3's, but the G20 and G21 are Gen 2's. Never had a single malfunction with any of them.

Most have been bought used, but used prices are so close to new right now I bought the last 2 new for under $500. Lots of new Gen 3's still on shelves. I have no personal experience with Gen 4's. Used Glocks around here are $450-$475.

No, it's not a joke. I don't want to spend $500+ on a pistol and then have to have it repaired, that's unacceptable to me.

To the other people, if you've put thousands of rounds through them then I'm assuming they're not late Gen 3s? Also, to the person that said the problems are fixed, how do you know? I'm not trying to insult you but before I drop that kind of money I would like to be absolutely sure. I'm thinking about getting something else just to not risk it.

FWIW, if you want and like the G19 buy it. Shoot the snot out of it. If it has problems find out when and where the closest GSSF outdoor match is to you. The armorer there can in all probability fix it for you, and it will be free. While you're there join GSSF and start shooting matches. You won't regret it. I see you are in Florida, there are several GSSF outdoor matches in Florida.

I have several Glocks and 2 of them do occasionally throw brass in my face. A G36 and an early gen4 G17. It doesn't bother me, so I have never had them inspected by the GSSF armorer at the matches I have attended.

I must be lucky. 6 months ago I swore I'd never own a plastic pistol now I own 3 of them....one is a Glock 26 Gen4. Just today it turned over having had 1000 rounds thru it and it's ready to be relied upon/carried by me.

In that 1000 rounds I have shot 5 different brands of ammo, bullet weights from 115 gr. to 147 gr. I have shot cheapo ammo and really expensive carry ammo and even worked up some reloads with 124 gr. flat points. Shot a bunch of old Winchester Silvertips today as well. Not one hickup in 1000 rounds. It's never hit me in the face with brass and it's the most accurate pistol in rapid fire/triple taps I own or have ever shot.

3 factory mags and not one FTF, FTE, or complaint.

I must just be lucky.

I purchased a NIB Gen4 G19. It was a single shot pistol, as it couldn't extract... Sent it to Glock on their dime and they sent me a new replacement...

The new one is okay, no issues so far, but it's only got 600rds give or take. I've also got a 19c and a 17rtf2. The 19c has been the most reliable, yet it's still not infallible.

Go to glocktalk and see for yourself if the issues are solved..

I've got a gen4 26 that shoots and extracts just fine. Never had an issue with my gen3 21 or 36 either. Guess I was lucky too:)

I have two Glock 19s, a second generation and a fourth generation. Both are flawless. The fourth is approaching 2K rounds, I've lost count on the two.

Glocks are far from the only pistols that have BTF problems with certain specimens.

BTF is NOT unique to Glock.

Speaking only for myself, I've had FIVE different 1911-type pistols. Each one had serious BTF problems when I fired it.

I think the BTF thing is the unfortunate confluence of the wrong gun and the wrong shooter. When it happens, all the shooter can really do is scratch that gun off his list.

For me, it was about cleanliness (the Glocks', not mine). A 17 and a 23; both extracted/ ejected fine when clean, but would occasionally have ejection issues when the chamber was dirty.

I have a newer (2010)Gen 3 model G19 and got the ammo in the face problem. Changed out to the new ejector and it pretty much went away. My new Gen 4 G19 hasn't had any problems at all. Shoot the same ammo in both. My FIL has a (newer than mine) Gen 4 G19 and no problems. My son has an older (2007) Gen 3 G19 and never a problem. Of the millions that have been sold, you only hear about the few that had some problems. The ones that work fine you don't hear from.

I had a 26 3rd gen with brass to face problems. Put in a gen 4 ejector and no more problems. The gen 3 ejectors are shaped differently and don't catch enough rim. I have a gen 4 g19 and the only times it has erratic ejection is with crap target ammo.

Factory plastic sights are garbage, replace at least the front with a steel sight. I lost two front sights across two G17s - my G19 had a steel sight installed before I left the store with it. I also like to spin the rear sight around backwards since the white outline is a bit too busy for my taste.

Keep a spare takedown spring, and a spare trigger spring. I have personally had two of each fail. The takedown spring, you cant do anything about. If it breaks, it sends a hot slide just past the firing line. The trigger spring you wont notice until a reload. In the event that it breaks, you can pull the trigger and rack the slide to reset it. Of course, unless you are firing in defense, the pistol should be taken out of service.

Erratic ejection I just deal with. Haven't had a lot of brass to the face with my third gen.

I enjoy hickok45 Glock videos on youtube because you can see how many possible trajectories a spent case can have with the same pistol in the same session :D. Seriously, I don't know what is going on at Glock and what they are thinking about customer satisfaction. In any case a Company with such reputation of reliability (which is largely overrated) should had tested everything before releasing components and new generations of pistols that are actually not 100%, rather then let the customers to be their beta-testers for ejectors, extractors, recoil assemblies and so on (and IMHO the magazines, which are rarely mentioned, are part of the problem because strange trajectories seem to have a periodic trend during the emptying of the magazine).
The fact they are still shipping 500-600$ guns with those stupid plastic sights in the third millenium is also unacceptable.

I have a new glock 36 that I bought while my xds 45 was out for the recall. I get intermittent fte's with practice ammo. Glock armorer recommends shooting it more, but i'm going to get a replacement extractor and replace it myself.

I have a Gen 4 Glock 21. I only have about 450 rounds through it so far, mostly Tula steel case ammo. BTW, I only use the 3 mags that came in the box, I'm not shooting any older G21 mags. It shoots these dirty "trashcans" accurately with no FTFs. Occaisionally I'll take a spent round to the forehead when I use the TulAmmo. When I shoot a mixture of PMCs, Fiocchi, Fed White Box, Fed AE, Fed Champion, WWB , Rem WB, and even PPU factory ammo through it, it is still accurate with no FTFs and no rounds back at my forehead. I can conclude a few things here. Plain & simple, factory ball ammo (i.e., WWB) is not as good as it used to be; with all of the variations in powder charges and primer quality issues, it's a wonder these firearms function as well as they do practically all of the time. Since I want to be able to shoot all types of Range ammo through this gun, a few spent rounds to the head on occasion are O.K.; I wear a hat & glasses at the range.

I guess, being a newbie Glock owner, I'm curious as to why the inconsistency of functionality. Bad quality control? Bad/intermittent materials? Ammo inconsistencies?

I know the local Shooting Instructor at the range tells folks/told me the Glock sights are junk and to replace them before shooting the gun in his class. I have no issues with them unless they fall out of the gun and then I'll upgrade to something nice I guess.

As already stated, they shoot to point of aim for me with uncanny precision but then again I really like the white dot front with U shaped rear white. I don't travel widely about firearm Internet discussion forums...what's the skinny about these Glock deficiencies?

^ there are too many variables that happened at the same time to pinpoint one single thing. Late gen 3 they switched to MIM parts, it seems they either had a bad mold or QC issues with the change. They also did a redesign (gen4) to fix the issues with 40SW failures with lights mounted to the rail. There have been many RSA, extractor and ejector revisions, so it really is impossible to pinpoint. Although it seems the 40's are in fact fixed with the caveat that 9's now suffer from issues.

Glocks, like any other man-made mechanical item, are subject to malfunction. Gaston's advertising department had to have been full of self-importance to use the "perfection" angle.

Glocks are good weapons. they are reliable, simple to operate and train with, nearly "cop-proof", and there have a good price point. But, contrary to popular belief though, one size does NOT fit all.

saber dude, glock usually fixes it for free.the extraction problem was not that it didn't extract,it was that it bounced the empties off your head.i sent my 2 19c's back to glock for repair, which was free.i told them that the triggers were tearing up my trigger finger after
150 rds.requested the round trigger,which they did.
