Just bought a very used G21. If a Glock switch was installed but the outer switch was removed does the internals show any modifications? I don't want the G21 I have to be skirting the law.

Everyone wants to knee jerk, read his post Again!
Sounds to me like he wants to know if a used gun had a switch installed in the past, are there any internal changes to the gun that would remain?

I don't know the answer as I've never had a used Glock or a switch, but I'm sure someone here would know.

There are no slide modifications that would have been done to install a Switch. With it removed the pistol is perfectly legal.
If they required any machining or thought they wouldn’t be so popular.;)

What is a Glock Switch? I own a lot of Glocks…is the OP talking about the selector switch on a G18?

OP, I honestly don’t know what you are referring to, but if you are worried about the gun, I’d say bring it to a gunsmith for a quick look. Glocks are the simplest guns in the planet. If there is something amiss, it should be easy to figure out.

Another option would be to send it in and ask Glock to check it out. Doubt it would cost much if anything, and they’d replace alol worn internals.

Knee jerk?? There are no civilian G18’s
This is a real switch.

You're not removing it without some issues..

If your talking about one of the VERY illegal Chinese ones. You’re on your own.

He is merely wondering if his just purchased, very much used, G21 pistol may have had a switch in it…
Evidently, because it looks to have a lot of wear.

Why would we leave him on his own?

I bet it was just abused, @gasmandave, and that it’s mostly finish wear, with many rounds of life left. GlockUSA would know for sure and would probably even check it out for free.

As long as the rear slide plate is factory flat, with no buttons, switches or plungers, as you already clearly stated, Gasman, the pistol is legal.
(No punisher skulls either please.:D)

The Naughty Switch doesn’t need any mods to the slide to put one straight in jail. But I’m guessing those who chose to have one, don’t care about ending up in jail anyway, probably not enough to ask if they might.;)

Pics of the gun in question always help ;)

As for “switches”:

The first pic is of an illegal home made slide cover plate modification. The duct tape shows how crude the work was, but the switch on the rear replacing the factory slide plate is not. It went full-auto every time.

This is a profile shot.

As for the OP, if there is no goofy switch or lump sticking out the rear you’ll be ok.

(As a side note, I have only seen/investigated 9mm glock and glock clones that have had the illegal switches installed. I have not dealt with, nor do I recall our office ever running across, .45 or 10mm glocks with the illegal mods. They sure could be out there, but I haven’t run across one. Its hard enough controlling a full auto 9mm glock, a 10 or .45 would be unbearable.)

Stay safe.

I would tell you to Google but you might end up on some big brother list.
It's a device that makes a Glock 9mm full auto. So I understand the Op's concern about staying on the right side of the law. He just wants to make sure his gun doesn't have some unseen modification that unknowingly gets him sent to jail one day.:what:

The pic you have is not what the O.P. is asking about. See the pic that Riomouse posted, which is a crude example, but you can get the idea.
It's a device that attaches to the back of a Glock 9mm and makes it full auto.
These are of course, very illegal, yet still easily obtainable and a lot of criminal gangs and drug dealers are fond of them.
So the Op is just concerned there might be an unseen modification to his gun and he doesn't want to go to jail. Kind of like if you had an Ar15 with a modified sear or paperclip installed in the right place, it could get you jail time, even if you weren't aware of it.

Thanks. Didn’t know such a thing existed but guess that’s my ignorance.

Full auto G21 spewing full power .45ACP. What could go wrong there???

If I were OP, I’d find a good Glock detail strip video and check it out myself. There is a very good one on the MCARBO website.

I would tell you to Google ...
I did Google it, but it seems as if it is not a "gun guy" term, but rather a "media term".

All the Google hits for "Glock switch" I saw were media news stories and not from gun magazines or in gun forums. This is probably why I, and others weren't aware of what the OP was talking about. Perhaps this is a term that appears regionally in news stories.

Good...thanks...I'm legal!

Yes.

I strongly recommend if this gun looks like it’s seen hard use and many thousands of rounds, you consider replacing springs. They are not expensive. I’d also replace that slide cover with a factory one. Glock OEM parts are NOT expensive and available from many places like Brownells.

Springs can be bought from Brownells or the others, but I’d buy Wolff. Ghost and MCARBO have good springs. Avoid reduced power springs.

Clean it up and your G21 should last pretty much forever. And sending it in to Glock for a check up will likely be returned to you basically rebuilt and probably for little expense.

Looks like the bottom right rear side of slide has been notched out at slide rail. I’d be Leary what other mods have been made. But the hole in rear slide plate is normal.
