Howdy folks. This is my first post.
I recently purchased my first firearm, a Glock 19, and so far I'm very satisfied.
Anyways, you know how the trigger must be in the rear position to remove the slide? Well, the first time I attempted to field strip the pistol I accidentally retracted the slide too far, thereby moving the trigger to the forward position. I didn't immediately realize this, however, and commenced to push down the slide lock and attempt to separate the slide from the frame. Although the slide moved forward a tad, it wouldn't come off, of course. I wouldn't say that I tried to force it off, but I did apply some firm pressure before realizing my mistake.
Which brings me to my questions. Could I have damaged something while I was trying to remove the slide with the trigger in the forward position? Mechanically speaking, what prevents the slide from being removed while in this state? Is this a safety feature, or just incidental to the design?
