I have been carrying a G27 since 2001. I want a .45 and I have pretty much narrowed it down to the G21SF or the G30SF. Any of you have experience with these? I like the capacity of the 21SF (13+1) but I think it might be too big to conceal effectively. Would make a great house gun though. The 30SF will conceal better for sure but it has a 10+1 capacity.
capacity. I know that you can use larger capacity Glock magazines on the 30 but I had not so great feeding when I tried G23 and G22 mags on my G27.
I would get both if the funds allowed. Oh just to throw in another option even though a 10+1, the Smith M&P.45. Thanks for your help. Oh feel free to recommend other .45s too.

I own the Glock 21 SF and conceal carry it in a Comp-Tac C-TAC holster. I try to carry as often as I can but I work at a college currently so everyday carry is out of the question. I usually carry while wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt. It is pretty well concealed with some printing, but its difficult to notice unless you know to be looking for it. It is heavy and on the large side, but I would rather have it than a mouse gun. The gun itself has given me zero problems thus far and I am more than pleased with my selection.

Why not get the G21, so you have a fullsize to go with your subcompact? As you said, it would make a very good house gun. Maybe throw a SureFire on the rail.

I'm curious; what exactly went wrong when you used G22 and G23 mags in your G27?

1911! That's what I carry. The perfect size, feel, shootability, and concealment profile.

However, Of the choices above, I'd take the G21SF. I like the way the 21SF feels in my hand. I thought I'd LOVE the G30SF, as the size is so small, but it doesn't feel right to me. The grip doesn't come down low enough in my hand, so there's a bit of palm hanging off the bottom. The G21 obviously doesn't have that problem. I have a Kahr PM9 for when I need an itty-bitty pistol, so of the chocies above, I'd go G21SF.

But... Although intrigued by the G21SF, I'd still pick a 1911 ;)

Purpose dictates. If home defense, get a G21-SF. If for concealed carry, get the G30-SF.

I do have a 21-SF for home defense, and it makes a dandy companion to my Remington 870 Tactical. A word of warning about the G21-SF. Glock made two different rail types: 1) Picatinny and 2) standard Glock. Go with option 2 or you can't conceal carry the 21-SF because no one makes a holster...yet.

The G30-SF is my next purchase.

I'm a real fan of the 30SF. It's a workhorse, very accurate, and conceals easily.

I wish I could say something nice about their customer service,...but that's ben said.

Old 30 model owner here

I have a 30 and I think it is one the most versatile guns out there.

10 or 13rds.
+P .45 230 Hydrashoks

The only thing I want now is a Glock 26 for very light carry,or perhaps an SP 101.

It's small but really not that small. Its kind of in the middle of the full size compact measurements.

Plus Magazines are the dirt cheap for any other OEM.

I say either one. I'm 6'3'' and I have a Glock 20 (same size as a 21) and my Glock 30 is much more handy.

Either way you won't be dissapointed.

I have a Glock 21SF. It is my favorite and most comfortable gun to shoot "tactically". I can make pretty nice groups with it, although nowhere near as nice as with some of my other pistols, but I can make them faster and more reliably under artificial stress and after a draw from the belt than with any of my other guns.

I have a Versa Max II on order for it, I don't think I'll have any problem concealing it.

I own both in the non-SF renderings. I might as well forget about the G21. Too big. Even for home use, the 30 is plenty gun to stop a badguy. I say go with the more versatile 30.

:) I live with a G-21; I carry it around with me on my belt all day long. Right now, and as usual, it's on my desk next to the computer I'm typing on.

Don't have any trouble concealing it, at all. I carry IWB in an open top Blade-Tech holster. Have to wonder what all the fuss is about 10 rounds of ammo? That's a lot of ammunition; just how many bullets do you think you're going to need to stop a threat? That first 10 plus the other 10 on the other side of your belt should be enough to get you safely home!

The G-21 and the G-30 are, both, great carry pistols. If I could only have one, I'd choose the G-21. Forget the S&W; it ain't been around long enough to have made a reputation for itself. Self-defense ain't about what's hot, and what's not; it's about using the right weapon, knowing how to use it well, and staying alive. A Glock will do that for you; and, you can keep any Glock up and running from your garage workbench. No other pistol is able to do the same thing anywhere near as well.

By the way, I don't carry to full magazine capacity + 1. I've been carrying guns a long time. That + 1 may be the round that jams the gun. If you want to carry more ammo, then, get an Arredondo magazine extension and spring, and carry it as a backup. ;)
