Just picked up my new G26 today and the first thing I noticed was a key hanging from the bottom of the grip. I asked the clerk about it and he said that GLOCK is now required to put locks on the frame . I guess they are going the way of Smith and Wesson now. The manufacture date on mine is 8-24-07. This is very disturbing, it really makes the gun look worse. I know that you don't have to use it, but man it really takes away from the gun :banghead:. Anybody know anything about this. I guess I will get used to it, but I would really prefer a plain " old-school " Glock.

I have a 2007 GLOCK catalog that has a little write-up on the internal lock, and it says, quote:

"The lock is a specified option on GLOCK pistols"

That's what the catalog says, anyway, at the bottom of page 93.

Do you mind posting a pic of it? I've been thinking of picking up a 19, but may consider a used one instead.

i believe the lock is an option. i just bought a new G19 Gen 3 and the only lock it has is the cable lock that came with the box. i did not find the lock that goes in the grip. thank goodness!

for legislative appeasement, maybe it is an "option." a stupid option at that.

Hmm, maybe the dealer bought the lock version without knowing it was only an option??

I've never heard of anything like this before. Try asking about it on GLOCKTalk if we at THR can't help you.

last i checked the lock is still an option

last i checked the lock is still an option kind of like geting on star in a new chevy truck you dont have to get it if you dont want it .i just bought a glock 21 sf about a month ago and it did not have a lock on it

Not to be a wisen-heimer, but those in doubt could call and ask.

Last I heard, it is an option, as is the Smith and Wesson products.

Don't panic!

Have you noticed the hollow area behind the magazine well on every Glock? The internal lock can be inserted in this hollow area on any Glock or removed from any Glock. There is not a "lock version," but rather a Glock with the lock inserted. Think of it as a package and not a version.

It's actually a better design than Smith & Wesson's.

You can buy a "butt plug" to cover the hole at the bottom of the grip or leave it open. Every new Glock current leaves the hollow area open.

This lock was added because several states now REQUIRE an integral lock on a new firearm in order for that firearm to be sold in those states; as said above, it's removable if you don't want it.

Wait a minute...As I understood it all Glocks have that place on the back of the slide to put a key. My 3rd gen G19 (2006 manufacture?) came with a key and I just threw it away. I've never heard of any problems with it.

I called Glock and asked the lady about whether or not Glock will be putting the lock on all of their guns in the near future. She told me that she did not think so, and transferred me over to another lady. Her reply was the same, and she transferred me to another guy. He said that the lock is only optional and that the factory only produce them when there is a special request for them. He also said that they are cutting back on even providing the ones with the lock, because many people simply hate them :):D. Hmmmm imagine that, people hating a totally annoying, and uselessly depressing add-on! Thank God. Well, I informed my dealer about this and he agreed to take care of this problem and get me a regular ole' G26, but I get to have Nightsights on this one :D:D:D!!!

Greg8098,
Sounds like you ordered your pistol sight unseen, your dealer probably ordered you one with a lock because they cost slightly more than "real" Glocks.
