I have what I hope isn't a dumb question. I picked up 1000 357 Sig Gold Dot bullets. I shoot both 357 Sig and 9mm and will load them in 357 Sig. Is there any reason I can't also load these in 9mm? I can see that the mouth of the 357 Sig Gold Dot is wider than the mouth of a 9mm Gold Dot and it's 125 grains as opposed to 124. I have a CZ that hasn't been feeding hollow points reliably. I had work done on it to correct this and want to run a few different types of hollow points through it to confirm it's functioning correctly now.

Bullets for .357 Sig will work in 9mm but not necessarily vice versa.
Many 9mm bullets have to much taper and can't be seated short enough in the sig without having setback problems.

Thanks for the answers. My concern was unknowingly doing something that would damage the gun.

Drunkenpoacher, I've experienced the setback you're talking about when trying to use 9mm bullets in 357 Sig brass but couldn't figure out why it was happening. Thanks.

Case filling powders like AA 9 and Blue Dot are a good idea as well. Bullets can't set back much before hitting powder.
I've found that once the dies are adjusted correctly, with a proper bullet, set back isn't an issue.
It also helps to chamfer the case necks, it minimizes the amount of flare needed to seat the bullet.

Purely from a fit perspective, it should work in 9mm. When it comes to expansion it could be a different story. I assume these bullets were developed with different optimal expansion velocities.

Understood. I'm not using them for SD. I want to run about 100 of them plus some other HP ammo through a CZ I have which was having problems feeding HP ammo. It's been repaired, so I'm just confirming it's functioning well.

Sorry, my bad. I just assumed you will be doing more than just CZ function testing.

So this means you will be loading about 1k of these GDHP's in 357sig.:D Do you have any test results you can share? I have been mostly loading the 125gr V-Crown for 357sig and have not tried the 125gr GDHP's yet.

Exactly. I'm saving the reminder for my 357 Sigs. I'll let you know what the results are.

Vaalpens,
I have 100 rounds I loaded before. I used 7.8 grains of CFE Pistol. The starting and maximum loads are 7.0 and 8.0 grains. I never chrono'd them but did run about 100 through my P229 without a problem. I'm going to go with the same load and if I have time, chrono them tomorrow.
Tom

Tom, I have not done much with JHP's using CFE Pistol, but what I have seen out of a P229 (depending on bullet length and COL) should be around 1350fps.

This is my V-Crown load I use and tested in my P229:

357sig, P229, 3.9"
Case: Speer
COL: 1.125"
Sierra, 125gr, VCROWNJHP, BE86, 7.8gr, CCI500
Average: 1288
ES: 28
SD: 11.4
Force: 460
PF: 161
Velocities: 1271, 1295, 1295, 1299, 1284
Testing medium: 1gal water jugs
Bullet recovered: 3rd water jug
Recovered bullet diameter: .7020" (95.75% increase in diameter)
Recovered bullet weight: 123.2gr (1.36% decrease in weight)

Thanks for the info. I didn't have a chance to shoot a 357 SIG yesterday, but I'm guessing 7.8 grains of CFEP is comparable to what you listed.
