Two different spins on the same story, both good here in Mi...

from 10 years later, opposition to concealed guns fades | mlive.com

and from 10 years after concealed weapons law, unclear why many in state were gun-shy | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Copy writen material so just a short quote, read it at the above links...

IONIA, Mich. (AP) — Ten years after Michigan expanded the right of law-abiding adults to carry firearms, some of those who opposed the change say the dangers they feared didn't come to pass.

and

Ten years after Michigan made it much easier for its citizens to get a license to carry a concealed gun, predictions of widespread lawless behavior and bloodshed have failed to materialize.

This is awesome publicity. Another great quote:
"My position was, and still is ... that the people we have a problem with aren't the people who are willing to follow the law and go through the hoops and training," Bouchard said.

This is what we've been saying all along! We need more of these articles to be published and exposed

I read the article in the K'zoo paper a month or so ago when they did their big expose on CCW permits in Michigan. While I'm glad we are a shall issue state, the lack of proper reporting is abyssmal. Not a single county has been in 100% compliance with their reporting procedures since CCW went into effect. The newspaper article could give a lot of ammo to the anti's to have CCW revoked. There was an undertone in parts of the article that seemed to support that. I'm pretty sure CCW is here to stay in MI, at least for the forseeable future.

Now, if we can get NFA items in Mi, I'd be a happy guy. (I know full auto is legal here, but I don't have the cash to afford that, a nice SBR and supressor would be nice though.)

At least on the good side, when things have been around for a while and there is nothing terrible happening as a result, people often do become more accepting of it.

The first article listed by USAF Vet makes double critical points in its title...

Worst fears about concealed guns never materialized, but permits can't be credited for crime drop either

Both are realistically accurate.

Yeah, I remember the hand-wringing and the predictions of Armageddon when Florida went "shall-issue" back in 1987. Pistol-packers were all but guaranteed to be "dueling it out Wild West-style over everything from slow waiters, women, and parking spaces", they said. The streets would be "flowing red, awash in the blood of the innocents". Yes, these were phrases the media actually used. Now, I bet you'd have a hard time finding a so-called journalist from then that would admit to going along with these stories.

I find it interesting that even the people that admit they were wrong still want more training and screening. To me that just signals that the point of gun control is purely control.
