Good article about the ban

This article states clearly and smartly most of the facts in a nutshell about the ending of the AWB. I am planning on sending it to some antis (or fence-riders) I know to help them understand. We need to have everyone read these types of articles so that if the ban comes up again, we will be better prepared.

Only one problem with the article. He states that manufacturers made cosmetic changes and sold the guns under different names to "circumvent" the law. That implies companies were engaged in deceptive practices to manufacture and sell the guns illegally.
The proper word or phrase should have been to "comply with the law". Compliance is exactly what the manufacturers did. The law itself spelled out what features weren't allowed and they complied by not offering those features on the rifles.
Sorry to be so anal about such a minor detail, but words really do mean things, which is what I believe the article was trying to convey.
 
So cut-n-paste it into Word, change it to "comply," then print and hand to wife and friends.

Stevelyn is exactly correct.

The anti's have spent the past 10 years complaining that the manufacturers were "circumventing" the law, when in fact the manufacturers were simply complying with a bunch of stupid requirements codified in a stupid law. God forbid they (the anti's) should acknowledge that the reason the ban was meaningless was that they wrote a ridiculous law. Nope -- to save face, they had to make it appear that the manufacturers were the bad guys, and try to position compliance as "circumvention."

In distributing the article, I would feel no compunction about correcting "circumvent" to read "comply with." If you want to be really strict, put it in brackets to acknowledge that an editorial correction has been made.

No, gewehr is the German word for rifle. "Sturmgewehr" translates at "assault rifle".
