Hello All,

I am looking for a fair and balanced book(s) on the Second Ammendment and current political thought as well as some decent historical analysis pertaining to the founding father's.

+1 for Halbrook, Stephen J. (1994). That Every Man Be Armed. Oakland, CA: The Independent Institute,

Malcom, Joyce Lee (1994). To Keep and Bear Arms. Cambridge, Massachusetts.: Harvard University Press.

Amar, Akhil Reed (1998). The Bill of Rights. Yale University.

Cottrol, Robert J. Ed. (1994). Gun Control and the Constitution: Sources and Explorations on the Second Amendment. New York: Garland Publishing Company.

David Kopel wrote Guns: Who Should Have Them (1995)

Things like John Lott's More Guns, Less Crime and Kleck's Point Blank are applications, not historical development.

Full citations! Guess that's what you'd expect from someone with the screen name "Librarian!" Good job! :D

It's a little off subject, but A Constitutional History of Secession by John Remington Graham and Donald Livingston has a lot of information on 2A and militias. Graham is an expert on British and US legal history, and, while the book is directed towards the legality of secession, he has some great information about gun freedoms, especially in his discussion of the War of 1812.

I'd probably stick to the books that are devoted solely to 2A, but if you want something a little different or might be interested in secession it's a good read.

Jeff Snyder, mentioned above, does indeed have a website:

http://www.shiningwire.blogspot.com/

and has a collection of his essays:

Amazon link to Nation of Cowards

PS: The "Shining Wire" reference is a chapter in Richard Adams' book "Watership Down" - if you haven't read it, don't be put off by the fact that it's about rabbits. It's similar to "Animal Farm" in theme, though it's less allegorical and the rabbits aren't as anthropomorphized.

To ride, shoot straight, and speak the truth, by jeff cooper.

also, to hell with 'fair and balanced' stick with 'facts'.

Fair and balanced means that you have to give the holocaust deniers a sidebar in the history books, fair and balanced means the flat earthers, or those that believe the earth is the center of the universe get their fair say in physics and astronomy.

No, not "to hell with them." I asked for them because the more I know about my enemy, the more effective I will be at being a second ammendment apologist. It is important to understand their reasoning.
