Good firearm/self defense books?

I am currently reading Ayoob's In The Gravest Extreme.

I also have Cooper's Principles of Personal Defense.

What other good books are out there?

Something else that would be helpful, since I'm still a newbie, would be a book (or perhaps better, website) that goes over firearm anatomy, so I don't sound like a maroon when I point out "this doohickey here" -- something like a firearms encyclopedia, perhaps?

Another fun book would be a book of the history and engineering behind firearms -- preferably a nice coffee table book, with lots of pictures of antique weapons.

at Brownell's is well worth the money and a good place to start and finish. Kuhnhausen especially for the 1911 but also for anything he covers.

Ayoob's additional books and Cooper's additional books including on rifles along with The Modern Technique....would be a good start for social purposes. There are many other aspects Tubb on high power, anybody from Askins up on shotguns and handguns, Keith on handguns, shotguns and hunting - there are many books waiting to be discovered.

Been a while since I read In The Gravest Extreme (gotta pull it off the shelf) but I’d think it might be getting a bit dated?
Anywho, check out ‘bout anything by Massad Ayoob. I have quite a few of his books and they typically cover all aspects of self-defense (leading up to, the act, the aftermath). Even the ones you may not think would cover the subject (The Gun Digest Book of Combat Handgunnery comes to mind) have excellent sections on such.

I see it’s not released yet, but I’ll probably buy his upcoming The Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry.

You might also want to check out Lenny MaGill’s site if you’re interested in DVDs? I see they have a "6 for $99" special at this time.
If you check in the left column, you'll see a "Self Defense-Firearms" link to a page of such DVDs.

I took 'em up on one of their 5 for $109 specials and the DVDs are pretty good, 'specially for the price.
The Bill Wilson & Ken Hackathorn House Clearing & Cornering Techniques and Night Master "Low Light" Shooting & Flashlight Techniques are good.

I'm sure you can find 6 DVDs you'd like at the site?
Heck...at that price I think I may have to do some shopping!

If you want it straight from someone who has been there and written about it, try getting a copy of "Guns Bullets and Gunfights by Jim Cirillo. He passed away last year and I found his stories and conclusions from his actual gunfights from his NYC days very compelling. I keep it right next to Cooper's book and Ayoob's book previously mentioned.

This comment caused my brain to lock up for a minute - I thought that you were using "suburb" as the opposite of "ghetto", and making a comment on the "street cred" of the book.

Then I realized that your spell checker probably morphed "supurb" into "suburb" - instead of the correct "superb".

You had me guessing for a minute.
