It was a beautiful day out yesterday so I figured I’d take a trip to the range. So I pack up my newly acquired CZ P-01, 300 rounds, and off I go.

The targets I was using have five two inch bull’s-eyes on them. I also had a few silhouette targets.

I taped a couple of the bull’s-eye sheets on the cardboard backer and pushed it out to about 7 yards. With the exception of the first shot which flies a bit right (still getting used to the DA first pull) I was very consistently hitting the targets.

I switched to the silhouette targets at about 7 yards and shot switching up with 2 COM and 1 head, 3 COM and 1 head etc. Again the P-01 was very impressive, all shots hit where I aimed.

There was an older gentleman shooting in the lane to may left. He came over to my lane to chat.

Gentleman: “Hey there, nice shooting. You’re really grouping them there!”

Me: “Thank you, breaking in a new gun, CZ P-01.”

Gentleman: “Good to see some young guys at the range.” (I’m 39 :))

He ducks behind the lane barrier and comes back with a CZ 75 Target.

Gentleman: “CZs are my favorite pistols”

Me: “I’m very impress with the CZ, it’s quite a shooter.”

Gentleman: “You wanna see a shooter???” He waves me over and shows me a stainless S&W 952.

Gentleman: “It’s a custom job, they don’t makes these like this anymore. Wanna take her for a run?”

Me: “Sure!”

He then starts to hand it to me.

Gentleman: “She’s hot, but the safety’s on. Careful she’s got a hair trigger.”

He has his target set at about 10 yards, I line up the sights, flick off the safety and put my finger on the trigger. I barely pull the trigger and BANG! A beautiful little hole appeared dead center on the target. The trigger was about 2#, if that. Very little recoil, more of a vibration than recoil and muzzle flip was nonexistent.

Me: “WOW!”

Gentleman: “Told ya!”

He encouraged me to take a few more shots, I did. Then I let him shoot my P-01 which he had never shot before.

We were there about two and a half hours shooting the breeze and some holes in paper. In the end I collected up all my brass as well as his and put it his plastic bag. Shook his hand and told him I hope to see him there again. He said I should, he’s there just about every day. :)

I’m looking forward to it.
