I'm about to own my first HK 91, I have a pile of 308 brass that I can load. So I'm looking for a GOOD recipe for this rifle.
THANK YOU for any help!!!
I recommend IMR 4895 with Sierra 168 HPBT with CCI # 34 primers. If using 7.62 mil. brass I would start with 40.0gr. 41.5gr. with commercial 308 brass. As with all autoloaders, be mindfull of headspacing. I also, recommend using a small base die and limit reloading 3-4 times... Here's some good info on reloading for autoloaders... http://www.zediker.com/downloads/14_loading.pdf
I know it was written mainly for the M1A/M14 but the info on preventing slamfires applies to all autoloaders...
I've had decent success with 44.0gr 4895 using 150gr Remington bulk SP in mil surp brass of mixed headstamps. It's not going to be sub-moa by any means, but is minute-of-man accurate with irons and is reliable in those types of actions.
A lack of optics for my rifle has prevented me from developing any further loads for it.
I use Armscor 55g bullets (FMJBT). They are pretty inexpensive and look to be good bullets. I get them in mid-size quantities from Midway.
Use Factory Duplication Load if your reloading books show that and seat the bullet so there is a firm crimp in the cannelure.
For resizine brass you want a Small Base Full Lrngth Resizing Die as you want to get that case back to original factory specs to prevent casec from not properly chambering..
