I have bet my bacon on my Maverick 88 since 1990...and I'm still around to wager, I just don't wager as often.

Maverick 88

Solid gun, my local Wallys World has them for $168. It is a Mossberg made in Mexico.

In addition to ChinaMart, if you have an Academy store near you, they also have the Maverick HD model and an H&R HD model for less than that. Why the hassle of buying online and FFL fees when you can beat that price locally?

I too looked at the Maverick and Mossberg before deciding on the Rem 870 Marine Magnum. It just seemed to fit me better and felt solid. I have no doubt the other two are fine also.

Good luck to you in any choice.

Any reliable shotgun is a good HD shotgun. Any manufacturer can have a bad example slip out the door from time to time, though. The solution to that is to pick a shotgun you like that fits you reasonably well, and then SHOOT IT untill you 1) have confidence it will work if you need it, and 2) until the shotgun is as familiar to you as a body part.

Stay safe,

Remington 870 express super magnum with 18in barrel and mag tube extention.. Can't go wrong.. its decently priced, shoots all the 12ga rounds you can throw at it.. and best of all its a REMINGTON.

mossberg 500 combo from big5 right now, you get the 18.5 inch barrel and the 28inch barrel, so you have HD and clay shooting all in one for a great price.

My father has owned a Maverick 88 for years and it's been trouble free. I've got several each of mossberg and remington pumps in the safe. All have given good service. Buy one, run a ton of ammo through it and be happy.

I have that same maverick shotgun i added an advanced technology p-grip stock and a b-square no gunsmithing mount with a tasco dot sight and made it even better . i say go for it its a nice reliable shotgun for the $$$$:)
