Excellent!

I’ve never taken or had taken a picture with a game animal. The uncles who taught me how to survive in the woods were dead set against it. My mothers brother said it was trophy hunting, not game hunting and he didn’t approve. My father’s brother said essentially the same thing but called it vanity sport. As a result, while I may respect the practice by others I won’t engage in it myself nor teach the taking of trophy pictures to others.

I don’t see anything wrong with pictures, but I also don’t trophy hunt. I have a picture of me with my first buck, a yearling. I don’t publish it. It’s for my own picture book. If I get a deer with a handgun this year I’ll likely get a pic if it isn’t inconvenient. But I likely won’t publish it. And it’ll probably be a doe.

For me, it’s more about my boy. That buck I mentioned. I have a picture of me holding him at 4 months old next to it. Hope he understands the sentiment when he’s older.

I respect my kills, I eat as much of the thing as is edible. And occasionally I'll take a picture. But the big bull elk I shot was so awesome to me, I had a full head mount done. Not big on trophy hunting, but if I kill an exceptional animal I'll show em off... Good story OP. It seems to mean more when you make the ammo that takes the game...

I haven't hunted in years, and have only killed two in the years I did hunt. We took pictures of the second one, an 11 pointer, and I had it mounted. I also ate both of them, and shared the meat with my fellow hunters. Couldn't see the head when I shot the second one, thought it was a doe and was looking for meat.

I don't have a problem with people taking pics of their kills, but I don't believe in trophy hunting. If you kill it, it should be eaten or given to someone who needs food.

I concur

I have no mounts, but do take pics OF THE HUNTER with their game. No pics of just the game.

We have only hunted (and fished) for food, not trophies. We had a couple guys on a deer lease, one shot an outstanding buck, caped it and left the carcass. I retrieved the carcass in time and salvaged the meat.
Neither of them were allowed back.

I would much rather take a doe, for the quality of meat.

I want to kill a bobcat with a handgun. Well two. I want to have one mounted for my home. Probably on the entertainment center. My wife hates the idea. I also want to have one made into a bobcat fur hat, with head and all. My wife absolutely refuses that idea. So both are a go. Bobcats ain’t a trophy animal generally but to me they are a trophy. Especially with a handgun and home rolled cast ammo.

I threaten to wear the hat to church when the subject comes up. LOL. And I would.

Enough with the virtue signalling already. The point that Frogo207 was trying to make was the sequence of events and the accomplishment, not the photo he received and didn't publish. Well done, Frog.

I've got 2 cats mounted. One I shot while Deer hunting. I had it mounted like it was laying on a limb with its feet hanging down and it rests on the top of the bookcase in my gun room. The other I got off of the top of a light pole. It caused an outage and I got an early morning callout! I made up a pole with an insulator on it and the piece of wire that the Cat bit complete with burn marks. The Cat also had matching burn marks on its lips and the side of its face. I had to cut the wire because the Cats teeth were locked around it. I can only guess that something either chased the Cat up the pole or it saw a bird up there. Probably got up there and felt the static and tried to bite it.

I like a nice trophy as well as the next guy and have a few Deer mounted. But we also eat what we shoot!

Thanks for sharing. I am looking to eat these bobcats by the way. My wife is not especially receptive of that either. I hear they are pretty decent. I’ve seen 2 on my farm in a few years. 1 while hunting but wasn’t legal for bobcat.

I just received a text from a former coworker who I ended up teaching (him and his grandson) how to reload. They texted a picture of the grandson with a nice 7 point whitetail that he harvested on opening morning. They used handloaded 300 Savage 180's they assembled and tested the week before. His first deer I believe.
This would make me very happy. I have friends and relatives who've taken game with my hand-loads, and that's great. What ever I can do to keep them in the woods is worth it. But I would love it more to have them learn how to load thier own. So far I've only got one SIL and grandson who've shown interest.

That is good news.
While I'm not into trophy hunting. I still like taking pictures with the game I harvest. It's more of a memory of good times with my family than anything.
Some day pictures will be all you have. Take lots of them. If nothing else your family will be thankful.

I lived in the upper peninsula of Michigan for years. Moose were a pretty common sighting in certain places. They are truly massive and can be aggressive.
