So, I went to a 10 buck IDPA match tonight and managed to spend a hundred bucks on a BB gun! Actually, considering I got a spare mag and all the goodies I made out great. It is a BHP copy of which I have two real ones. The training opportunites look endless.

For indoors practice I am going to get some cardboard IPSC targets and maybe use some heavy card for backing. The thing came with a target trap, but I didn't buy an inaccurate BB gun to shoot bullseye with. Looks like I can now practice live fire cornering, movement and manipulations without blowing holes in the wall. Tonight I tried out an old towel doubled over on a coathanger as a target, works great. Some of the pellets actually penetrated the towel too, so not to be treated as a toy!

Another opportunity I see is for almost dryfire practice as in gas only, no pellets. Traditional dryfire kinda sucks in that you have to cycle the weapon or even with a DA gun there is no reaction to recoil or front sight movement. I found that with this particular model I can pop the slide stop out and the gun will cycle on a gas charged mag. Excellent, now I get the recoil, which feels like a .22; an audible to respond to and front sight movement. I can see much dryfire coming in firing doubles and doing transitions which is not something that can be done with traditional dryfire.

Eventually I want to get several more to duplicate my other guns. I would also like to get with some other people and basically shoot the crap out of each other. Hopefully I can attend some classes that throw in some force on force airsoft until I get the money to play with simunitions.

I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone who wants to practice more to get an Airsoft that duplicates what they shoot. More ideas for this can be found in the current SWAT mag as well as the last USPSA Front Sight mag that came out.

Now where's that cat...:scrutiny:

Some people turn their nose up at it, but I'm with you I think it is excellent practice. Plus if you have a lot of buddies into it it's killer fun to play wargames too... I am drooling over my M733 and it hasn't even arrived yet. My gas pistol was very good to practice with I thought.

If the Airsoft has adjustable Hop-Up, the variable backspin option, you may surprised with the gun's accuracy, especially at indoor distances.

Have fun.

For about that same price you can get a single-pump pneumatic pellet pistol (I really, really, like my Beeman P3). It may not work anything like your BHP but it is great for practicing iron sight 10M shooting in the back yard. I can get it to group inside 1.8" from a cheesy rest (camera tripod) but I think the limiting factor is still my vision.

Pen, I've had airguns all my life, still do. If I want to do that now I break out the 1911 Marvel conversion, some Colibri and commence to blastin' I don't even go outside at times :D.

Navy Joe: I have an all metal Beretta M9 and a select fire Glock 18C, they both will "dry fire" without the BBs (the glock is an real attention getter at non-public settings). People who know more than me say that dry firing is bad for the Airsoft guns. Both weapons are used for point shooting/training with my normal holsters. I love the way the weapons field strip just like the real deal. Shooters need to see and try these out. Most have only seen the cheap $20 Airsoft toys or think of Airsoft as another form or Airpistol.

Want to get someone hooked: - show them a full auto with the glow in the dark tracer/unit BBs.

I'm trying to work up a training program for novice shooters at my local club and have found that the LEOs and vets are the most receptive and the "gamers" the least receptive. But this is based on a small sample and also shows my own bias.

I'll go on record as saying that an Airsoft pistol is just about essential practice gear for all serious pistoleers.

Not only can you train at home with it in a way that simple dry practice does not afford, but you can train CQB skills in a way that is simply not possible with ANY live fire weapon.

Moreover, it is a great asset for force-on-force training. The standard of the industry - Simmunitions - is overly expensive, liability-transferring, and anti second ammendment. Thus I refuse to work with them. Airsoft allow several benefits over the alternative in this realm.

Go buy an Airsoft pistol, train with it, that's what I have to say.

Hey trigger time is trigger time & if you're gonna train more, you should be better off. Only down side is that the trigger is diff't that your real BHPs. Congrats on the new gun ;)

i got an airsoft gun from wally world for 14 bucks. it looks exactly like a beretta 92. wally got in trouble for selling these b/c they didn't have the orange markers on the end, but my profit :) it's a pump one that you have to pull back every time you want to fire it, i don't use that and just practice my trigger squeeze and sight picture.
