;)

A buddy called and wanted to sell his brand new, bought it last November, Savage model 11 Hunter in 243...he has never even fired it...I shot it 20 times when I sighted it in for him and thats all its been fired.

He wanted $600 for the rifle and scope (Nikon 3-9x40 BDC)...I told him that was a fair price but I don't need it.

So he says $500...I say, nope....still don't need it...then I remember he's been wanting a lil Walther 22 I have, and that his girlfriend likes my lil 243 youth rifle (older Rem 700Y, 20" barrel)...I offered a trade.

The Walther (POS imo), the youth 243, and $200...he accepted and threw in 40 rounds of ammo (my reloads) and most of a box of bullets (95 grain BT's).

This is my first Savage, I've shot many...but never owned one until now...this one is a sweet shooter with H4350 under 95 grain Ballistic Tips.

And...technically, it belongs to my 6 year old son :) but until he grows into it...:D

Not really, technically he has to wait another 12 years till he can own one. (LOL)

Nice ploy for getting a very nice rifle.

You traded him a Remington 700, a Walther 22, and $200 for that Savage? Sorry, but if this is the case you got completely ripped off. You can buy the Savage 11's with that scope brand new for $489 at Sportsmans Warehouse. Used they tend to bring $400 max in this area and the one I saw for that was like new with some ammo thrown in and it took weeks to sell. That said, you did get a great rifle that I suspect you will enjoy. I love the Savage 10's/11's.

You were over-generous. I'd take the Remington every day- you gave him at least $300 too much.

I think you guys are mixed up on which guns I traded....the POS Walther 22 (pot metal slide), and a rough, flimsy plastic stocked, short barreled 243...

I know what he paid for the rifle, I was with him when he bought it...but, haters will hate

The 700 youth rifle alone was worth $100 more than the Savage. Not to mention the handgun and $200 in cash.

^^^^

This. Barely fired or not, it's still a used Savage with an OK scope, wouldn't sell for more than $400 around here.

No federal minimum age for long guns.

Ok...let me describe this trade a little better...the youth 243 was 14 years old, no telling how many thousands of rounds fired (at least 4-5,000), it was one of the really cheapo rifles...I got it new for $325...and it was beat up pretty good, its been through a few kids as a training rifle, and I've drug it through the bushes coyote hunting myself...it never was very accurate, no better than 1.5 moa...and often worse....I didn't really care for the 20" barrel either....worth about $200 in its current condition.

The Walther....a P22, jam-o-matic...always was....not worth 2 cents to me.

The Savage....is a sub moa shooter, brand new, and still a very lightweight rifle...

As long as you're happy with the deal, that's ALL that matters. I've had some deals that may have technically been "upside down", but I got something I liked better out of the deal, so it's all good.
