I've seen a number of threads over the years about how long/short a time it takes to get a concealed carry permit in various states so I'll share my experience for those who may be interested.

I mailed my application, fingerprint cards, money order, and a copy of my NM concealed handgun license (as proof of meeting AZ's training requirement) to the AZ Department of Public Safety on May 21, 2011 and received a concealed weapon permit in the mail on May 29, 2011.

I suspect the law allowing concealed carry in AZ has affected the number of folks getting one.

When I got mine, it was a few weeks wait.

Yeah, I bet that Constitutional Carry in AZ has decreased the number of people getting a permit just in case they want to carry concealed occasionally.

Here in Florida you can call one of several regional offices and make an appointment to go in and get all paperwork/fingerprints, etc. done, and then it takes about 5-7 business days to get your permit in the mail. Just have to provide proof of residency and firearms training (my DD214 was sufficient). I had a Tuesday AM appointment, the office was about an hour's drive south of my home, and I got there about 15 minutes early. I was done and out of there before my scheduled appointment time! And I tell you what, if the rest of the government ran as efficiently, politely and respectfully as this government office did, we would not have any reasons to complain about how our tax money is spent. My permit was in the mailbox the following Monday.

You can also get your fingerprints done, fill out a form , send in a copy of your training, etc. to the office in Tallahassee, and it can take 60-90 days to get it back that way. That's why it was worth the hour's drive and a morning off from work for me to visit in person.

I think I have you beat. I put my paper work in the post office on Sunday night and had my permit in the mail on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, they miss-spelled my name. Made a phone call and had a replacement in Fridays mail. Oh, and this was six months before the AZ CCW requirement was eliminated. :D

So far as I can tell from buds there, the main point of the Arizona permit now is reciprocity. Those who don't need that, just want to take their eggs to market, no longer clutter the system, so of course every other applicant, who qualifies, sails through.

That, and there are a few other benefits of having one, such as the ability to carry a few more places.
