Ordered a Spike's Tactical mid-length last week. After a long wait for shipping, it finally showed up at my local FFL today. Got it home, stripped, cleaned & lubed it. I can't wait to heat it up!!
Excellent choice. I'd urge you to mount a quality sling to it, feed it from good magazines (mil-spec aluminum with good followers, Magpul Pmag's, or Lancer L5 AWM's), incorporate a light via an FSB mount, and most importantly, get training in its proper operation via a carbine course!
Appleseed is another good option to touch up on your marksmanship basics, just buy four 20 round magazines for the Appleseed Shoot.
Congratulations. You will love your Spikes. It's easily the equal of most any Colt, BCM, or Daniel Defense out there.
I have a 16" Spikes M4 LE carbine upper (on a PSA lower) that has been 100% reliable. It's probably the smoothest-cycling and most accurate carbine I've ever encountered. I think the Spikes ST-T2 buffer is a big reason for this.
Congrats man! I just got mine in yesterday! An m4 profile, I can't wait to shoot it either! It definitely looks good too, no tool marks or scuffs anywhere!
Take it to the range shoot a bunch, If there is something you don't feel comfortable with it will not take long to find the answer. Start bolting on parts, like most AR guys till you are either happy or so loaded up you you can no longer see the rifle.
AWWW come on you know that is the big draw for these rifles.
Oh and clear some room they tend to bring home lots of friends. I don't even care that much for the platform but there are eleven varients in the safe right now...... better go check and make sure they have not multiplied again.
That's a great rifle. I've had the opportunity to shoot a few different brands, one of which being a spikes and it seemed equal in quality to the other big brands.
Thanks, guys. Really all I can think to add to it is a decent optic. Other than that, I like the plain-Jane thing. That's why I picked such a basic rifle.
Oh, I suppose maybe lots of spare mags and lots of ammo!
Have to confess an affection for plain-jane, as well. I am tempted to put a red dot on it, at least for sometimes.
My one and only AR (I had a couple in the Army, but they made me give them back! jerks...) I specced out the upper (lightweight, chrome lined, 16" carbine, 5.56mm chamber, standard A2 upper), and assembled the lower on a stripped DPMS lower and an LPK I picked up somewhere. I stoned the trigger bearing surfaces with a super-fine stone to polish the machining marks, so it's pretty slick.
