Hi all, I finally got my VZ-24 from AIM today. When I opened the box and pulled it out I was pretty pleased with what I saw. The stock is in excellent shape with only a few minor dings and the metal was very nicely blued with only a few scratches around the front handguard band. The bore is in prety good shape with only minor pitting. I spent all night getting the cosmo off and I also steamed the stock to get the cosmo out of it. Afterwards I lightly sanded the stock and gave it a few coats of BLO. I have to let the batteries for the camera charge then Ill try to put some pics up. I hope to get to the range sometime this week to try it out. If anyone else who owns can give me some tips on owning one Id really appreciate it.

Heres some pics.

Gorgeous example of a VZ-24! What do you know of its provenance? I have one from the Nazi era so it lacks the crest but can be put at a certain time of production. I think you'll be well pleased, it certainly is a very nice example.

What method did you use to steam it? I'll be looking to do something similar to some older stocks I'll be working with.

BTW, does your VZ-24 have sights that look kind of like this? (]_/\_[) Wondering if they are of a certain time, or standard for them.

I just got one from AIM last week, as well. Great rifle; I shot it this weekend, and it is really accurate.

Col. Plink: Yeah, the sights do look like.

The ones from AIM seem to all be Russian capture/refurbished versions of the Romanian contract guns the Czechs made during the Nazi regime. They have partially/totally ground off crests, but the crests are not Czech (lion), but are the crests of Romania.

I dont really know when it was built, Im going to try and look that up sometime this evening. For steaming the stock I just used a wet rag and an iron. I would lay the rag on the stock and then lightly press the iron on to the rag moving it back and forth until it almost quit steaming. Just rewet the rag and repeat until you've did the whole stock.

Nice looking rifle.

At ranges under 300M they shoot high, because the lowest rear sight setting is 300M. Brownells sells a higher front sight blade that you can install, which will bring down POI.
