I think your first loads were in the leade too.

But since they all went bang, you never noticed it.

Unless you are loading a Max or near Max load, there is no reason to start over again.

Rifle calibers aren't nearly as sensitive to changes in OAL as handgun calibers.

Besides, if you are into the lands now, seating shorter to stop that will probably more then offset the shorter OAL.

Took a couple of the reloads to the shop and had the guys look at them. They didn't go off cause primers weren't seated all the way with the press primer. Got a lee she'll holder to see if that helps. Said I have short throat and it's rifling marks on bullet. Otherwise everything checks good. Seating them to factory rounds and should be g2g according to the 3 guys at shop

I think that's what I told you in post #8 isn't it??

( Not about the misfires, but about the bullet marks.)

If using Lee dies.

V-MAX Bullets Need Custom Bullet Seating Plug

Posted by Andy @ Lee Precision on 10 January 2012 11:57 AM

The bullet seating plug in the bullet seating and crimp die is generic and designed to seat a wide variety of bullet types. It is a very low drag bullet and has very steep sides. These steep sides allow a large portion of the bullet to slide into the bullet seating plug before the plug makes contact with the bullet ogive. This causes the bullet seating plug adjustment to bottom out before the bullet can be seated to achieve the cartridge overall length you are loading to.

A remedy for this is to order a custom bullet seating plug for $8.00 + shipping. Order the plug online at: http://leeprecision.com/custom-bullet-seating-plug.html

Send the sample bullet you want the plug made for, along with a copy of your invoice, and we will make the plug for you.

Yes it is I wanted them to check the round for shoulder and everything else especially why the primers didn't go off.

Using rcbs dies. Thanks tho

Cause lots of times they don't fit right??

I have had more problems with Lee shell holders over the years then all the RCBS, Lyman, Pacific, and others in my collection.

Many of them are loose, or too tight.

they said the RCBS shell holder could possibly be too high for the lee primer arm on the ram to push them up into it. its $4.99 for the new shell holder so worth a try.

I load for my Axis a COL of 2.23" with 55 gr V-Max, with 25.8 gr of BL-C(2) and CCI 400 primers. Doesn't hit the lands, and is a very accurate load to boot. I load 55 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmints to 2.24" with the same charge also. It too is a very accurate load that does not hit the lands.

As for the primer problems, use a separate priming unit instead of the arm on the press. Use the appropriate shell holder for whichever unit you get.

well guys I had the bolt fixed and cleaned the bore real good and decided today I would see if a factory round has any issues and sure enough it did.

the ring was very sharp and cutting the bullet and this time I had marks on the shoulder of the case right on the very edge of it. the factory round also got stuck in the barrel and the bolt had to be forced open.

I'm calling savage and having it sent back tomorrow.
