Receiving end must be an FFL for shipment. Individuals cannot MAIL handguns, but they can SHIP handguns via private shipper (Fedex / UPS). Carrier policy requires overnight, expect ~$50 charge on that, must take place at the hub or depot, and package contents must be declared.

FFL can choose whether or not to accept from an individual, some will and some will not. If an FL will accept from an individual a photocopy of State issued photo ID must be enclosed for proper entering in the A&D book.

Receiving your gun back to your private residence from a Gunsmith or Mfg is called the Gunsmith Exception from the 1968 Gun Control Act.

Interesting. When I sent in a 686 to Springfield in Oct 2020, S&W sent me a shipping label that was 2 day Fedex, and when the work was complete it was returned via 2 day Fedex. I was expecting overnight or next day but that wasn't the case.

Hmmmm, so since LGS’s can generate cash flow from the Federal Firearms bureaucracy and laws, then why wouldn’t the local LGS that we so vigorously support not benefit and support more of the very bureaucracy/ laws that all 2A advocates love to hate?

Overnight and next day is pretty expensive. Most now use priority from the few I’ve shipped for warranty purposes on company’s shipping label.

As long as chain of custody is proper and lawful, I don’t think it is anything more than the company policy.

Great Simple Explanation. Like the reference to 1968 Gun Control Act explanation!

Nope. They ship it when it’s done and FedEx leaves a delivery attempt notice if you’re not there. The notice will tell you your options: pick up at the nearest hub, wait for redelivery attempt, or have it sent to a different hub for pickup.
Beat me to it. All four S&W’s I’ve sent back to the mothership in the past few years arrived at my office with no notice ahead of time. :(

Ruger let me know with an email on two of three. One was a surprise arrival.

The worst was Colt. They drop-shipped me 65 AR-15’s to the office with no prior notice. I was at lunch and got a call that I had a delivery. I drove back and saw that the delivery driver was pulling a pallet of boxed rifles for a block down the street of the ghetto-ass town I work in to reach the delivery gate around the back of our building. :what:

Hopefully you’ll have better luck!

Stay safe.
