In an earlier post I sought advise on the Kimber Custom II 9mm. Was looking at an SA Garrison as well. Cabela's had the Kimber (used) for $549. The sales guy wouldn't budge off the price until they had it at least a month, or so he said. I just had to find another sales guy to talk to. Finally, I did and made an offer of $500 after 2 weeks on the shelf and they almost blinked. The guy said he was going to counter offer at $520 but decided $500 was ok. It came with 1 Wilson Combat 10 round magazine.

It shows a little wear and I would estimate to be in about 95% condition.I loaded up a couple of magazines and took it to the range for a function test. I was using my hand loaded 124 gr Berry's hollow points over 3.8 grains of HP-38. These Berrys have a shoulder on them and I later came to realize this gun just does not like them. I would drop the slide on the first round and it would go into battery. The following round would not go fully into battery and the slide would seize up. I couldn't push it into battery or pull the slide back. So I dropped the slide and had to pound the muzzle 2 or 3 times with the palm of my hand to open the slide and drop the round out. After about 5 attempts just like this I called it quits for the day and went home and stripped, cleaned, and lubed it. Next day I took it out hoping for much better results. But it wasn't gonna happen. With magazine inserted I let the slide fall on the first round and it went into battery. The second and third rounds went into battery but after that it was a repeat of the first day. Feeling discouraged I began to drive away when I remembered that I brought a box of Fiocchi ammo.

VOILLA (or however you spell it), it functioned perfectly. Only a half magazine but I felt vindicated. I have some regular round ball hand loads at home so this week I plan to put it to a much more thorough function test. Here's hoping for more great results.

What edwardware said. I've loaded a lot of 9mm for a number of guns over many years. I have loaded truncated cone bullets similar to the one you have pictured. That design tended to be very accurate in my guns, BUT I had to be very careful with OAL to insure the shoulder of that type bullet did not run into the rifling leade of whatever firearm I was loading for. There is a SAAMI sec for such things, but production barrels from various manufacturers differ.

FWIW, I have owned three full sized Kimber 9mms like yours, other than mine had the Bomar type adjustable sights. I've also fitted a 9mm barrel to a Kimber Eclipse 38 Super; same boring reliability. They were all reliable, even the conversion, with my reloaded or factory ammo from day one. The Kimbers I've had were all very good guns. I suspect yours will be a good one too, soon as you get the ammo situation sorted out...

I'm not surprised it jammed with that TC bullet... I would rework that load and seat that bullet deeper.

Sounds like you have a decent pistol on your hands, however! Good deal! :)

I took it to the range and wrung it out a little more, about 50 rounds, without a hiccup. These were my 124 gr Berry's round nose ( and a handful of Speer Gold Dots). I put up a target about 12-13 yards away.

Nothing spectacular on my part but I think it brings out the potential of this Kimber. Maybe on a warmer day I will actually run a qualification course. and stretch out the distance. But I think I have found a shooter.

At that price for your Kimber, you handled it really well getting them down to $500!

Hope you can get the ammo sitution in order because the accuracy potential is there!
